• Thank you Willis and Frederick

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Tue May 27 17:09:38 2025
Today it is 93 degrees with a "feels like" of 106. Thanks to Willis
Carrier, I'm sitting in air conditioned comfort at my chosen temperature
of 77. He came up with AC in 1902.

It was very hot outside, on the road with the sun on asphalt, it was 98 degrees. Thanks to Frederick McKinley Jones, my car is air conditioned
also. He came up with the idea in 1937.

It was bad enough living up north, many of us could not exist in FL
    without cooling.

It's actually cooler here today, only 80°F with a "feels like" of 91°F.
The office building where I work is air conditioned as is my house.
    Thanks to Mr. Carrier.

Thanks to Mr. Jones, too. I had to recharge the AC in my car a few
years ago. It gets way too hot to be driving around in the Summer
    without AC.

It was bad enough living up north, many of us could not exist in FL

Every year there are reports of people dying of heat stroke because
their homes aren't cooled and it gets so hot inside, even with windows
open and fans running, their bodies can't stay cool.

In six years, I've adapted a little but but when you hit the extremes,
hot is still hot. Sad that some still cannot afford a window AC to at
    least keep a bedroom comfortable.

I don't spend a lot of time outside here in summer. Inside, it is as

I spent to keep warm in winter in CT.

Local news outlets ask people to donate fans to help people. But even
with fans, it's just blowing hot air around. Dehydration is the
problem. Bodies sweat to cool off but if you don't drink enough water
to stay hydrated it's a losing battle in extreme heat conditions.

Maybe your Majesty could donate some bottled water? You can buy it at
Publix, and they will even deliver it to the poor people in your
kingdom, so your highness wouldn't have to lift a royal finger.

My step-mom, a person raised in the cold climes of Sweden, was thinking
about getting a fan that used ice to cool the room temperature. I had no
idea that such contraptions existed. These days, it's easy to find a
window A/C for $250 or less. I guess she must be desperate.

We had lunch at her house. I bought some roasted chicken, beets,
coleslaw, and olive salad. She made some potato salad. A good time was
    had by all.

68°F (20°C) here and it's our rainy season, but the

Serious vegetables. Is that because she's Swedish and not Hawaiian?

My base electric bill, no heating or cooling is about $50. My highest
bill in the summer was $130. It would be an even graph up and down for
    the year.

In CT, I had a very efficient oil burner for heat and would use about
750 gallons of oil. With the old burner, it was in the 1100 gallon
range. Today, about $3 a gallon.

I set the temperature for what is comfortable, not to save $5 for the
month. We did pay for extra insulation though.
