What is appearing on your table on this last Friday night
of May 2025? Eating out or eating in?

Damn if a fried bologna sandwich doesn't sound tempting,
but no bologna in the house. So it's going to be homemade
tomato soup here made with roasted tomatoes. Maybe a
grilled cheese sandwich but at the moment maybe not.

I'm having a pasta concoction my wife brought in from somewhere, so it
will be a surprise of some sort.

I've had MANY fried baloney sandwiches, most of which I made myself.
Some of them were pretty damn good too. Sometimes with a slice of
cheese, and even tomato. Plenty of black pepper and a dash or two of
mild hot sauce. I like a good toasted whole grain bread for these.

I guess I should be ashamed, but by god, I'm not. I wish I had one now,
    instead of the pasta stuff.

It will probably be something really good. Be sure and post
back what you had and if you liked it or not.

All this talk of fried bologna sandwiches makes me wish I'd
picked up a package while at the grocery store earlier today.
But if I happen to go on a shopping trip later this week,
I'll pick up a package then and hope to snag the thick
sliced variety. All beef or all pork, none of that chicken
    bologna for me.

Yes, to hell with baloney made with chicken "paste". I always used beef baloney. Bryans was always good, and I also liked Ziegler's, though it
also had some pork. screw "mechanically separated chicken".

A hot roast beef sandwich on a buttered and toasted French roll with
Swiss cheese. Normally I'd use sliced Provolone but I didn't have any.
A handful of potato chips went along with it.

Same as last night, finished the pork tenderloin.

Plans changed. I was supposed to go to my son's for pizza but something
came up and he had to postpone.

I cooked up some shortribs. The ribs were soaked in a shoyu/brown sugar marinade for a few minutes and fried. It was quick and easy. The ribs
were on sale for $5.00/lb - that makes it cheap eats too.

My preference has always been beef cotto salami instead of bologna.

Last night, dinner was air fried crinkle fries and corn dogs with
Gulden's mustard. Simple and hit the spot.

in, mixed vegetables and lima beans, a few bites of
bbq chicken on top and a cookie with milk. cookie was
a chocolate chip cookie with caramel and chocolate
    frosting on top.

that all sounds good to me. fried bologna used to be
more common but now good bologna is as expensive as
ground chuck. once in a while i do really want a grilled
ham and cheese with yellow mustard on rye or pumpernickle.

Back in the 1950s when we occasionally had grilled bologna I don't think
it was possible to get good bologna. It was cheap meat, basically a
variation of a hotdog. There was no Italian community where I lived. In
places where there were Italian communities they poor. They more
established were immigrants from a poor country and the more recent
Italian immigrants had come from a poor war torn country. The Italian
community today is a lot better off than then were 60 years ago and
there are quality cold cuts to be had.

I wonder what a grilled mortadella sandwich would be like.

Eh, I'm just as happy to eat it cold or room temperature.

I was looking at some cheap bologna the other day. You need some soft
white bread and mayo to make a proper sandwich. I was ready to pull the
switch but chickened out. Ironically, it was because it had chicken in
it. I don't care for chicken in sausages because of the fine bone
fragments contained within. I could go for a bologna sandwich now
because I'm pretty hungry. I'll probably just have some granola, not
bologna, granola, not bologna, granola, not bologna.

I don't know why, but we didn't eat many hotdogs when I
was a kid. Plenty of bologna though and I'd be willing
to guess there was no chicken in it.

yes, we have a local meat company that makes them and back
then they were in business, when we moved to this area we
started buying their hotdogs, bologna and braunschweiger
and a few other things we don't get often any more (olive
loaf and there was also one with cheese bits in it that i've
not seen in eons). we used their ring bologna to make
pickle and bologna (bologna, onion, pickles ground up, add
mayo and cheese and broil that quickly open faced on good
bread - we were talking of making this recently but i don't
want to make a lot of it because of what happened last time
we made it (it spoiled - a very expensive failure :( )).
