Any special dinner plans tonight on this 81st anniversary
    of the Normandy invasion?

Nothing special here, but I did pick up a tray of sushi
at the grocery store deli section. They have a person
in that area making it fresh everyday so I indulged and
just wolfed it down about 15 minutes ago. Yum!

It was a bit early for me to be eating but I also bought
a package of beef bologna! If I should have any stomach
growling later this evening I can fry some up. It took
a bit of searching through all the bologna offerings to
find ONE brand that didn't include chicken. Shudder!
Unfortunately, it's not thick cut, but I can just double
up on the slices to fry. Spicy brown mustard is standing
    by as well.

Seafood sounds appropriate, something along the line of a cookout on the
beach. We are having pan fried rainbow trout.

My father was not involved in D Day. He had not been involved in any
air operations over Europe because of his having had interaction with
the Danish Resistance. While he had been sent back to Canada for a while
about a year earlier he had been sent back to the UK and worked as an instructor at a conversion unit. He had been sent back to Canada pending
his next posting. That was to be Boundary Bay out in BC.

AAMOF On D Day my parents were on their honeymoon. They were married
June 3, had a few days of honeymoon. As soon as they got back from the honeymoon Dad flew out to the west coast and my mother went out there by
    train.

Did the service deli have all - beef baloney that you can have cut to
    order... used to see it...

A big tossed salad here for me...

After the war, how long did he serve in the RCMP in boundary bay? And
was he buried in a Canadian military cemetery?

Always nice to know about these old heroes no longer with us. Often,

I've never seen baloney in the deli, all they stock is
Boar's Head. But in the lunchmeat case in the meat
section did have some large rolls, about 6 inches
long that could be purchased. But you have to slice
it yourself when you get it home. I didn't look at
it to see if had chicken in it though.

I think Americans are so corn dependent that they all get constipated

I have the messages my grandparents received when his plane went down.
The first said that their plane had not returned and Dad and his crew
were missing and presumed dead. Then there was a follow up letter with
limited details and instructions not to talk to the media about it.
Then there are the telegrams from the casualty office and shortly after
one from Dad saying he was safe in Sweden.
