• Everything is breaking.

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jun 13 17:27:37 2025
We had a set of 12 oz. footed glasses and years ago one broke, so three
left. Perfect for when my son and DIL come over and I make a frozen
drink or such. This morning, I took them out of the dishwasher and was
ready to put them into the cabinet, one got knocked over and broke.

Now, it they come over, I'm going to have to use a glass that does not
match. This will be totally embarrassing! What if people found out
about this? Emily Post will make me the subject of ridicule.

Still upset over my loss, I'm making breakfast, two fried eggs. Seems
simple enough but I managed to break the yolk of one of the eggs. So
    much to deal with today.

Not to worry. Go to the store and buy a tube of Duco cement, then glue
    that rascal back together.

You can use it for your son. He won't mind.

Oh dear. Well hey, it's trendy to use mismatched glassware and even
mismatched plates. You'll be the height of stylish!

Darn, a broken yolk! I'll bet the fried eggs still tasted good. :)

Maybe Friday the 13th got me.

Yes, egg still good. I use a small pan, butter. Heat to starting to
sizzle, crack eggs, and put a lid on it. Push down toast. When the
toast is done, eggs are done and slide right onto the plate.

I've been thinking lately about Egg in a Basket. Toasted buttered bread
with a hole cut in the center, cooked in a hot skillet with an egg
cracked in the middle. That might be breakfast tomorrow. :)

I've not had one in years. A favorite from my childhood. Of course,
the center cutout was the toast with the egg.

when you find something you like buy a few extra.
we found some drinking glasses at our favorite big box
store. we bought some more but didn't notice they
weren't the same kind of glasses. eventually we went
back and bought two more sets of four because a friend
of ours liked them too so we got her a set. i have
four extra other glasses which are ok, i was supposed
to give them to someone else but i've decided to just
put them in my closet so that i can get them out and
eventually break them sometime instead of using the
ones we like. but that is an issue for another era...

this is how i ended up with extra t-shirts in a bag
on my top shelf of my closet for 15 years. they still
fit - i just liberated them a few months ago when i
decided i'd better get them out. i also have an extra
pair of crocs and some other shoes i bought because i
liked both of them enough to buy extra. oh and also a
pair of jeans i also had to finally wear because my
other ones started splitting at the knees - those can
    be made into shorts.

in a normal year i spend maybe $50 on clothes.

    I buy clothes like that.

Years ago an elderly friend told me his memory was going
and sometimes he couldn't didn't recognise old friends.

"Except you" he said . I was flattered. Then he added

"It's very easy to recognise you because you're always
    wearing the same thing."

I do the same thing when it comes to clothing. If I find something I
like I'll buy several of them (usually cotton sleeveless tops or cotton
shorts in different colours) because next thing you know you can't find
    them anymore.

I don't stock up on glassware or things like that, though. I've got
plenty of it and rarely anything gets broken.
