NY Times reports that someone (presumably her) was found unresponsive
at her address by 911 workers. The medical examiner has not
determined the cause yet.

NY Post says cardiac arrest, but I don't put much faith in their
reporting.

If we are going to speculate why not suicide or OT?

Plenty of speculation with celebrities. People do die in their 50s of "natural causes", I know of a couple in the past. OTOH, celebrities are more often found dead from substance abuse compared to the average guy
down the street. People often don't want to wait for facts.

she was also an instructor there. Went to Italy and worked in

she worked in Italy to gain more culinary knowledge. What

She was obviously a celebrity because she was well known. She was a chef
and she had appeared on a number of cooking shows. Whether she got those
gigs because she was already a celebrity or if she became a celebrity
because of her many appearances may be something to discuss, but all
those appearance on cooking shows would qualify her as a celebrity chef.
I can't say that I was a fan of hers.
I pity celebrity chefs. No matter how good they are, people tend to tire
of them quickly. Maybe it is because they go too much for gimmicks and
turn people off.
The same with Julia Child whom I thought THE BEST tv 'cook.'
Julia had published her now famous "French Cooking" book,
but if PBS had not given her a shot, we'd never known who
she was and most likely we'd never heard of her book either.

If you get the chance to watch the documentary "Julia," it is a
blast.
The whole thing started because she and her cookbook were on the
local PBS book review show. Over station objections, she insisted
on doing a cooking demo of an omelet.
The station switchboard lit up like the 4th of July -- "I'd watch
that," etc. So they couldn't resist the viewer attention.

Food Network stars were also good, but they had to be entertaining as well. They were looking for the more flamboyant chefs.

Yeah, I'm not interested in watching cooking competition shows. For a
brief while "Hell's Kitchen" with Gordon Ramsay was fun but it was all
about making him a celebrity chef who was famous for yelling. In
reality, his private cooking videos are very subdued and informative,
filmed at home. Much better!

I like her method for spaghetti sauce. I'll have to give it a try. Her >technique of scorching the soffritto, meat, and tomato paste, is a good
one. I'm dubious of the amount of salt she's throwing around. There's no >garlic added - another good thing. She didn't use the word "deglaze"

cheapest red wine I can find. I don't have time to cook it for hours so
it'll be left in the rice cooker overnight to simmer.

I'm not averse to the occasional food contest. It depends on
the format, the host, and the judges.
In my Discovery+ watchlist are:
Tournament of Champions (which I watch with a lot of fast-forward
through Guy Fieri)
Chopped
24 in 24: Last Chef Standing
Ciao House
Alex vs. America
And it's not really a competition:
Chopped After Hours (in which the judges cook some of the previous challenges)

No commercials on streaming. It's clearly superior.
That depends on your streaming source.

I remember when Youtube was bought out, and Google wanted me to make a
Google account to sign into Youtube, 2009 or so. I don't like Google,
but YouTube was struggling financially before Google bought them. I'm
sure they wouldn't be around today otherwise, and Youtube sure is more popular than ever.
The YT ads you have to skip don't bother me much. What bothers me is
cable TV, where you pay $200/mo and 1/3 of the programming is advertisements. What a waste!

I pay about $200 a month for cable TV bundled with Internet. I get lots
of channels that don't have advertisements or very minimal advertising.
I found a channel that runs nothing but old 'Alfred Hitchcock Hour' and 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' 30 minute episodes. Hitchcock used to make
fun of what he called "sponsors" during his intro's and when a station
break was required in the middle of a show. When I'm watching those
shows now, I don't see ads. :) That's just one example.
I don't bother to sign into Google to view YouTube videos (although I do
have a Google Account) unless I wish to comment on a video. I don't use Google as a search engine, either. It's far too intrusive. Firefox
with Duck Duck Go extension as the default browser. I took Graham's
advice and added UBlock Origin to Firefox to view the videos. What a difference!

I have recently come across YT videos shown as fact when they are
complete fiction
They report alleged rejoinders and put downs by someone being
interviewed by, say, Karoline Leavitt.
Snopes is your friend here!
There are also many "heartwarming" stories, supposedly factual, that are complete bullshit

'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' 30 minute episodes. Hitchcock used to make
fun of what he called "sponsors" during his intro's and when a station
break was required in the middle of a show. When I'm watching those
shows now, I don't see ads. :) That's just one example.
I stream a lot on Tubi. There are a couple 10-15 second commercials at
the beginning and then again every 20 minutes or so. It is easy enough
to tolerate. If the commercials start getting longer or they string more >together I will be dropping that.

I have recently come across YT videos shown as fact when they are
complete fiction
They report alleged rejoinders and put downs by someone being
interviewed by, say, Karoline Leavitt.

There are also many "heartwarming" stories, supposedly factual, that are complete bullshit.

Your best bet in the modern age is to not believe any video, or picture,
on your phone, computer, or TV. You probably think I'm paranoid or fear mongering. I'm not. You might think I'm trying to be funny. I'm not.

I can PVR in my satellite receiver. It is interesting to FF through the commercials and see how much advertising you are being exposed to. SNL
is one of the worst. It's an hour and a half show but close to half of
it is commercials. It is a much shorter show when you watch only the
show and not the ads. FWIW when watching the recording and switching to
FF you see the time markers and when the ads are flashing by it is hard
to keep track of the ads as they zoom past because there are so many of
them.

story, then commercials, one news story, then commercials
until I think I've seen maybe 12 minutes or so of news. I've
pretty much stopped watching that channel for national news.
Question: if using UBlock Origin when watching Youtube videos, do you
still get those annoying messages saying ad blockers violate Youtube's

Let me see if I have this right. If I see a video where the Trumpster
makes and absurd comment I should assume that it is false news and I
should not believe it. Then when Karoline Leavitt stands up in front of
a microphone and says that it is false news I should apply the same
level of credibility and assume that she is lying and that he did say it.

Follow the Karine Jean-Pierre rule. Believe that a dead body ran the
United States for four years.

The older I get, the more cynical I get. That's a virtue in Today's
World. We know people who respond to shocking emails. They spend a lot
of time sorting things out at the bank.
Rule #1: Learn how to confirm who the email is from.
Rule #2: Never respond to a email link or phone number, regardless.
Rule #3: Refer to Rules #1 and #2.

There's another option. Don't view youtube videos in a browser.
Download the video and watch with your favorite movie player.
yt-dlp is the best, IMO and is updated regularly. https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

I had a chance to get a documentary about the Hawaii Lions club on DVD
but realized that I don't have any way to play such a thing on my
computer. I used to burn a lot of DVDs, CD, and VCDs. But in the end,
such media are useless in the modern world.

It's a heck of a story. It was da Hawaiians that moved the Lions International group into the modern era. A Japanese guy from Hawaii
traveled the mainland and petitioned the organization to allow
non-whites to join the club. In 1926, The Lions voted to change their constitution to allow colored folks membership. Beats me how he
convinced a convention hall of 10,000 white guys to approve of that.

Thanks! I'll have to uninstall Adblock and give UBlock Origin a try.
I enjoy watching videos on Youtube but the irritation of those notices
about ad blockers violating their TOS and still making me click SKIP
to get past the ads to view something is irritating.
