• Wear your seat belt

Recently we had some discussion about accidents and seat belts. I got
to try out mine, along with the side air bags.

    https://postimg.cc/Q92d8Hdy

I got T-boned yesterday by a pickup, spun around to get hit my a second
car. So, I'll spend a few days in the hospital. Three cracked ribs and cracked femur at the ball joint.

They had to cut the door to get me out.

The lady that hit me went through a light, probably passed out from a
medical condition. Police said she remembers nothing. I OTOH, remember
two impacts. Came to rest across 3 of the 4 lanes facing 180 degrees.

The physical therapy guy came in and I have exercises to do and he was painfully able to get me to stand, not walk.

I was headed to a doctor appointment. Two routs I can take, on there is
no traffic light and that time of day could be a PITA so I took the
longer route to cross at the light and be safer.

Wow head. I wish you a speedy recover. Tbone crashes can be deadly. I
am glad that you were wearing your seatbelt. It likely saved you from
    something more serious.

I mentioned recently that I am a big believer in seatbelts. I have
attended many accident scenes and have seen the difference in injuries
for those with seat belts and those without.

That looks like a lot of damage to your car. I imagine it is too early
for you to have heard back from the insurance company but I would not be surprised if it is a write-off. Between the bumper, the front fender,
two doors, air bags, and possible damage to the frame that is going to
    add up.

About four years ago I hit the seer that played chicken with me. The
impact caused the edge of the hood to roll under a bit, a slight dent
on the front fender, cracked bumper guard and some cosmetic pseudo
chrome like the H logo... over $7000. That was nothing compared to this.

A year or two before that my wife had a minor crash that dented the
driver's door, front fender, and bumper cover. The car was about 12-13
years old at the time. They wrote it off and paid me $5500. I got it
repaired for $2500 and it was back on the road.

i hope you heal up without complications but cracked ribs
are the major suck. every time you move anything or sneeze
or cough or laugh or even wiggle your toes you can feel it.

That might save you a lot of hassles on the long run. You may be able to
get a good deal on a end of the model year car.

What are they doing for pain relief? I have been on heavy duty pain
killers that took the edge of the pain, but they tended to make me feel
like crap. I don't know what kind of pain is involved with a cracked
femur but when I broke a rib (s) in a riding accident the doctor
prescribed a combination of Tylenol 2 and Motrin. That helped to reduce
the amount of Tylenol and the opiates that can cause discomfort and
other problems of heavier doses of any of the three components. The
combination was amazingly effective at pain control and avoided the side effects.
On a related note, I hope that you have a nice comfortable Laze Boy or
similar recliner. I had found that when you are lying down there is
pressure on the bones and they seemed to get more painful with time. I
would get to the point where I had to move and when I tried to move the
bones that had been under pressure would pop back and it would hurt. The tendency was to try not to move in order to avoid that pain, but the
longer I waited the more it would hurt when I finally had to move.
Better to take a little pain more often.

The other suggestion would be to eat Bran Flakes or some other high
fibre food to keep things moving when the opiates try to stop your
    bowels from doing their job.

I have three exercises to do every hour. The fun part, I'm not to put

leg. Sound awkward but I guess you get used to it.

Shower and toilet already have grab bars so that will help, also a

My wife's friend had her guts shut down due to opioids. It's a bleak,
hopeless, situation if that happens. My wife blames her friend's doctor
for over-prescribing the pills. The doctor is very popular among nurses
and people in the medical field. My wife is terrified of opioids and
avoids the stuff. She's seen the damage it can do.

Oh, Ed!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness for air bags and especially
the side air bags; you could have easily been killed!!!

I know you're probably in a lot of pain, but Sunday will
probably be even worse. Yeah, I know, you didn't need
to hear that. Take ALL therapy offered to you.

Legal opium! Every disadvantage has an advantage.

Yes! and it works even better with some booze and tranquilizers.

Seriously though, he will be OK.

I will have President Trump send Ed a "Get Well" card, I know that will
    cheer him up...

The
combination was amazingly effective at pain control and avoided the side
    effects.
The
tendency was to try not to move in order to avoid that pain,  but the
longer I waited the more it would hurt when I finally had to move.
Better to take a little pain more often.

The other suggestion would be to eat Bran Flakes or some other high
fibre food to keep things moving when the opiates try to stop your
    bowels from doing their job.

My wife's friend had her guts shut down due to opioids. It's a bleak, hopeless, situation if that happens.

Damn Tojo, why didn't yoose do something, instead of ignoring it and
    crowing bout da fukin Hawaiians?

Yoose really shit and fell back in that one Uncle.

Last June, someone hit my red Geo just enough to knock us off of the

I was at a celebration of life the other day for a woman who had had
pain medication issues. She had been a nurse and had broken her back on
the job. She had had several surgeries and developed issues with
opiates. She was the mother of my son's best friend and we ended up
taking him in because she was so bad. It's not good for a teen to come
home and find his mother passed out and having to call an ambulance.
