• Appropriate Thanksgiving dinner

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 10 17:37:06 2025
Dinner to night was like a typical T-Day dinner, turkey, stuffing,
    cranberry sauce.

Why do I say appropriate? I'm thankful to be going home tomorrow!
Won't be able to use my left leg for four weeks and need a walker, but
home is better than a rehab.

Well, that looks rather tasty! How was the stuffing? Seasoned
    just right, doughy, or great?

YAY! I know you're ready to sleep in your own bed. But keep
up any therapy they recommend so you can toss that walker. Do
they think you might have to always use a walking cane, though?

As good as any boxed stuffing. Acceptable.

I was told to stay off it for 6 weeks and it should heal. Nothing more "should" be needed.

I was surprised that they give a tiny packet of each, S & P. Makes
little difference as it is fine and was ground and packed probably in
1983 or so. Can't beat fresh ground. You also get, when appropriate,
Smart Blend spread and non dairy creamer.

How many vegans do you suppose are in Florida?

    It's more likely to be:

    1. Non-dairy creamer keeps longer, so it's cheaper.
    2. For patients who keep Kosher, non-dairy creamer is suitable
    with meat meals.

I was in a US hospital for a few days earlier this year.

I was put on a salt-free diet, even though my blood tests showed very
clearly that I was _extremely_ low on sodium.

I was asked to list any allergies, one of which is _oats_, but for
breakfast they provided a box of Cheerios, along with a cup of warm
water, a decaf teabag, skim milk, and fake sugar.

If they make little mistakes like that, they might also make bigger
    ones.

    They did.

Looks good but needs pepper. I'm sure that pepper is verboten.

Why do I say appropriate? I'm thankful to be going home tomorrow! >>>>>> Won't be able to use my left leg for four weeks and need a walker, but >>>>>> home is better than a rehab.

I was surprised that they give a tiny packet of each, S & P. Makes
little difference as it is fine and was ground and packed probably in
1983 or so. Can't beat fresh ground. You also get, when appropriate,
Smart Blend spread and non dairy creamer.

I don't understand the non-dairy creamer. Wouldn't real cream be
more healthful than some industrial crap from a factory?

    For vegan patients?

How many vegans do you suppose are in Florida?

    It's more likely to be:

    1. Non-dairy creamer keeps longer, so it's cheaper.
    2. For patients who keep Kosher, non-dairy creamer is suitable
    with meat meals.

AI says that 4% of Floridians are vegan and 3.3% are Jewish. That's
7.3%, maybe already enough to take into account. Yes, and there's
    shelf life too.

Either way, it's bloody awful stuff!

I did not use it. Nor did I drink the coffee or the 2% milk that came
    with some meals.

    But you're a tea drinker.

My error. Meant to say did NOT drink the coffee.

Yes, you said you did NOT drink the coffee. And I meant that's not
    surprising for a tea drinker.
