KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man accused of contaminating food at a Leawood
Hereford House has seen the criminal side of his case change drastically
as the investigation has progressed, leading to 32 new charges, including
child sex crimes inside the same complaint.
Jace Hanson, 21, initially faced a single count of criminal threat after
police say an FBI investigation found images showing Hanson urinating in
food bins, stepping on food and pressing food against his genitals and buttocks.

The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office filed a new complaint on
Tuesday charging Hanson with 21 additional criminal threat counts, all
related to food contamination, one criminal damage to property where
Hereford House is the listed victim, and 10 counts of sexual exploitation
of a child.
The new charges follow Leawood police’s efforts to collect information
from customers who dined at the restaurant between March 26 and April 25, leading to more than 230 reports.
The details for the sexual exploitation of a child charges are limited
right now. The complaint accuses Hanson of having photos or video of a
child under the age of 18 with the intent to satisfy sexual desires. FOX4
has requested the affidavit that will provide more context to those
charges, but where Hanson received or took those photos or videos is
presently unknown.
Hanson’s bond was initially set at $10,000, which he filed a motion to
have reduced to a personal recognizance bond where he’d agree to house
arrest and/or electronic monitoring. Based on the new charges, Hanson’s
bond is now $100,000 and he remains in the Johnson County Jail where he’s
been since April 25.

The allegations have also led to a number of lawsuits filed against
Hereford House where customers claim they became ill after eating at the restaurant.
Hereford House provided this statement after the initial charges were
filed in April:
“First and foremost, the safety of our customers and staff is paramount to
all of us at the Hereford House.”

“The individual who was arrested was a part-time employee who worked at
the restaurant for less than a month. Once authorities arrested the
individual on April 25th, we immediately took all measures and steps to thoroughly clean and sanitize the kitchen in accordance with health
department guidelines.”
“We are fully cooperating with all authorities in this matter.”
Hanson is due in court for a hearing on Thursday afternoon at 4.
