• QFTCIMM24 Game 5, Rounds 2-3: roadside, car racing

From Mark Brader@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 5 16:15:25 2024
These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2024-03-04,
    and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of the Misplaced Modifiers
and are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. The posting and tabulation
of current-events questions is independent of the concurrent posting
of other rounds. For further information please see my 2023-05-24
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
    (QFTCI*)".

    * Game 5, Round 2 - Canadiana - Quirky Roadside Attractions

Please see the 2-page handout: http://www.vex.net/~msb/tmp/5-2/qrky.pdf

Anyone who has driven across Canada knows that this country has
a lot of fun and unusual landmarks. The handout has pictures of
some of these roadside attractions. And I've rearranged the round
in order of the handout, so the two decoys are interspersed with
the other questions -- answer for the decoys if you like for fun,
    but for no points.

You won't be asked the name of the attraction. Instead, in each
case you must just give the *name of the city, town, or other
community* where the attraction is located. You don't need to
say which province or territory it's in, but if you do, you need
    to be right.

Sudbury is or was the world's leading site for nickel mining, thanks
to the prehistoric impact of a large nickel-iron meteorite there.

Nickels (the coin) were made 12-sided starting in 1942 when they
were about the same color as pennies, and the shape continued in
use through 1962. The Big Nickel was installed in 1964, but it
commemorated the 200th anniversary of the discovery of nickel
in 1751, so it was a 1951 nickel that was modeled.
