• Returning to UseNet after 25+ years

From Kittycat Dragon@21:1/5 to All on Sat Oct 7 00:18:11 2023
    Hi!

It's been a while. Today (October 6th, 2023 in case something goes
wrong) I read an article about the return of UseNet, and I thought to
myself "why not?", so I got an account and set up my news feed in
Thunderbirb. Somehow (even though we are not the most active group) it
feels like 1996 all over again. To be honest, I wasn't a Dragon back
then, but I was on UseNet a lot. How time flies.
Anyway, not intending to post a wall of text, just wanted to say something.

BTW, the new version of System Shock is quite excellent, but another
game from 1994 that I've returned to is MARATHON. Damn, what a game.
Kinda makes me wish I had a Mac back in the day, even if that and maybe
Myst were the only "big" games available.

    Welcome back!

I've occasionally checked this group and a few others in those 25 years,
but can't recall the last time I ever posted. I read the same article
you did. So here we are!

Thanks for mentioning Marathon, a game I never heard of! Now I'm going
to try getting an emulator set up for that.

There is at least a Windows version of Marathon, called Aleph One, and
it's freely available online, that's what I'm using. You can put 3D
models and modern music in there, but I've opted to run it as close to
    vanilla as possible.
