  • Identifying coat of arms, possibly German, on sword

    My father in law recently gave my husband a sword that he had found in his aunt's house when she passed away. This aunt was the family collector and had many family keepsakes, so we think this sword was an ancestor's possession, not purchased as a
    collectible. The family mainly comes from Germany. It appears to be a German Imperial hunting sword - it is on the smaller side and the scabbard has an additional hilt for a knife. There is a coat of arms engraved on the blade and hilt of the sword
    that we have not been able to identify. It is an oval with three roses, supported by a lion and a griffin, with a crown and ermine lambrequin. I can send photos if this sounds familiar. Many thanks in advance for any information!
