A St. Paul man is charged with the murder of his roommate after he allegedly stabbed him during an argument Friday morning.
Alvin Rozell Stafford, Sr., 56, is accused of fatally stabbing 37-year-old Randall B. Williams, of St. Paul, in the chest at a home on the 1500 block of Iglehart Avenue just after 10:30 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Stafford, Williams, Williams' girlfriend other roommates were at the home when an argument started between Williams and his girlfriend, prompting Stafford to step in.
Stafford and Williams got into a fight. Another roommate attempted to step in and break it up but was unsuccessful. That roommate ended up calling 911 after seeing that Williams was bleeding.
Stafford ultimately pushed Williams outside the home and shut the door.
Police arrived and found Williams with the stab wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died.
Williams' girlfriend told police that Stafford pulled out of knife from his pants during the fight but she didn't witness him use it, as she went to her room because she was scared. Both the other roommate and Stafford's nephew said they heard both men
mention a gun but no gun was found or was witnessed at any point.
According to the complaint, Stafford was found with blood on his hands. He initially said Williams was armed with scissors during the scuffle. A pair of scissors was found on a table, but investigators also found a small silver knife and a brown folding
knife, wet, under a drying rack in the kitchen.
Stafford initially denied having anything sharp when he fought Williams. Then then said he believed Williams had a gun but admitted to never seeing one.
Court records show Stafford has previous convictions including making threats of violence, violations of domestic abuse protection orders and 3rd-degree drug sales.
Stafford is charged with 2nd-degree murder. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison. He made his first court appearance Tuesday morning and is next scheduled for omnibus hearing on Nov. 16.
