Here's to 2023! I'll buy a round for the house.
The high temp for today (Jan 1) here is eastern KS is going to be in the upper 50s. I try to ride every New Year's day as long as the roads are
clear. If it's terribly cold I simply go "around the block" a few times
so I can legally say I rode on January 1. I alwasy ride long enough to
at least get the engine up to operating temperature and get the oil well circulated. If it's nice out I'll ride for an hour or two and put some
miles on it.
Today's weather is going to be wonderful, though. Sunny and relatively
warm. Especially compared to the -15 we had just over a week ago.
Let's have another round on my tab.

I'm too buried with repairs to ride today ... our backup gas heater malfunctioned while we were in Memphis for Christmas and it went to 3
below . We got a lot of busted pipes , all my plants are dead and all
our tropical fish are dead . Repair parts so far have cost just under
200 bucks and I still need to buy a toilet . And we're not sure yet if
the water company is going to give us a break on the 30,000 gallons of
water that ran thru our meter . If not that'll be another 200 bucks .
But I'll drink your whiskey and make mine a double , Shirley I need it .

Thanks Andy, still working on my coffee.
Glad you can get out. I've been hiking here at the IL/WI border lately.
Was 58 degrees two days ago and got all sweated up. Plenty warm to
ride, but I just don't want to get the damn salt all over the bike now
that it's in the warm garage. Snow is all melted, but haven't had any
rain to clean the roads. At least the trails are clear I guess.
HFNY!

Hey bartender! A full bottle for Snag!
Sorry to hear 'bout the pipes and water and the rest. That's something
that is always in the back of my mind, so when we leave town I shut off
the water and drain the system. I turn off the electric water heater,
too. Kind of a pain to turn everything back on, but I'd rather come home
to that instead of a house full of water.
Andy
WE have a propane wall heater big enough to keep the house as warm as
we like , and just had our propane tank topped off the morning we left .
The pilot flame has gone out a couple of times in the last month , but
both times were when we had the front door (it's just a few feet from
the door) open bringing in groceries and the like .
Well , just in case , I left a key for a neighbor to check the heater
. But he thought I left the key hanging on the outside of the hen house
on that shiny new nail ... you can guess the rest . Anyway , shit
happens and we get over it . No recriminations , we're all still friends
(see below) and repairs are proceeding apace .
Last night we the denizens of The Holler all gathered at the newest neighbor's place and ate burgers and dogs and drank beer and passed a
bottle of whiskey (Kentucky straight sour mash bourbon) around and
conversed around a bonfire . These are the best neighbors I have ever
had , and no material thing is important enough to affect that .
Shirley , I got a case of Ezra in the cellar . Break it out .

Dang, that Ezra tastes good this early in the morning! Thanks!
Good neighbors are great to have. Sounds like you have a bunch of 'em.
We moved from the out in the country into town a few years ago.
Yeah...we're now in a subdivision with houses all around us. I know all
our neighbors, and we wave at each other, but that's about it. Lois
spends lots of time peaking through the Venetian blinds to watch what
the neighbors are doing. I call her "Mrs. Kravitz" after the snoopy ol'
lady in the TV series "I Dream Of Jeanie."
I'm sure that any of our neighbors would be more than willing to help
out if needed, etc., but we don't socialize with any of them. Plus,
they're all about 30 years younger than us! They probably don't wanna
listen to a couple of old folks telling stories about the good ol days
or about old TV shows like "I Dream of Jeanie!" We still hang out with
our regular circle of friends, though. My buddies and I talk about cars, motorcycles, women...like Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeanie." (I'm starting to notice a trend here. <grin>)
Talk at ya later,
Andy
