• Riding the Kettle

Perfect day yesterday for an ice cream ride. 115 miles to get to Scoop
DeVille up in Hartford. Great little old fashioned ice cream shop the
warden, er the wife, has a liking for.

Yeah, I had an ice cream, but the best part was the ride. To get there
and back you ride through what we call "The Kettle." The Kettle Moraine
is "forested glacial hills, kettle lakes and prairies." Always a treat
as the seasons progress and change. In the fall and winter we love to
go up there hiking, often on the Ice Age trail which covers 1200 miles
    in the state.

Another sight I never tire of is seeing Holy Hill, a catholic Basilica
and National Shrine. First time I saw it I couldn't believe it. Looks
like a European church from centuries ago and medieval times. Was
amazed at seeing it where it was at. Heading north on 83 you can see
it off in the distance to the east up on the hill. I did climb the
tower one time, and what a view from up there.

Mostly smaller back roads on the ride. Nice calm ride on many not been
on before roads, and only totaled about 250 miles. Oh, the salted
    caramel was good too.

I'm ready for a beer and got the next round. <clink>
