• Harley-Davidson makes a tough "BUD LIGHT" decision amid 'woke' outrage

Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson (HOG) is attempting to extinguish the fire of “woke” backlash after a group of its consumers began focusing on the company’s supposed policies and beliefs.

Outrage against the company erupted in late July after Robby Starbuck, a former Republican candidate for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District in 2022, took to social media platform X to “expose” Harley-Davidson for going “totally woke.”

“@harleydavidson has been one of the most beloved brands in America but recently on CEO Jochen Zeitz’s watch, they’ve gone totally woke,” wrote Starbuck in a tweet on July 23.

He revealed that Harley-Davidson has a “total commitment” to diversity, equity and inclusion, and supports a number of LGBTQ-based policies, events and training for its employees. He also claimed that the company’s CEO, Jochen Zeitz, signed the CEO
Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge, and that Harley-Davidson is “openly working to have less White suppliers, dealers and employees.”

“I don’t think the values at corporate reflect the values of nearly any Harley Davidson bikers,” said Starbuck in the tweet. “Do Harley riders want the money they spend at Harley to be used later by corporate to push an ideology that’s
diametrically opposed to their own values?”

Many users on X were outraged at Starbuck’s findings, and some even claimed that they were boycotting the company over its beliefs.

After catching heat over its policies, Harley-Davidson finally responded to the backlash in a statement on X on Aug. 19.

“We are saddened by the negativity on social media over the last few weeks, designed to divide the Harley-Davidson community,” said the company in the statement. “As a Company, we take this issue very seriously, and it is our responsibility to
respond with clarity, action and facts.”

The company also refuted allegations that it supports DEI initiatives as it claims that it axed its “DEI function” months ago.

“It is critical to our business that we hire and retain the best talent and that all employees feel welcome,” said Harley-Davidson. “That said, we have not operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today. We do not
have hiring quotas and we no longer have supplier diversity spend goals.”

Going forward, Harley-Davidson said that it will ensure that its business resource groups “exclusively focus on professional development, networking, and mentoring.” Sponsorships and affiliations will also be under “review” and will only be
approved and managed by the company or its foundation. Employee training will also undergo a major adjustment.

“Training provided will be related to the needs of the business and be absent of socially motivated content - only legally required training has even been mandatory at Harley-Davidson,” said the company in the statement.

Harley-Davidson did not immediately respond to TheStreet’s request for comment.

Companies are starting to shy away from DEI
The move from Harley-Davidson comes after farm supply company John Deere also cut its DEI policies in July after it was exposed by Starbuck for its supposed corporate beliefs. Tractor Supply also made the same decision last month, avoiding a boycott,
after outrage erupted over its “woke” policies.

Microsoft even decided to lay off its DEI team last month after it faced controversy over its DEI goals in February.

Many companies have been making cuts to their DEI policies due to fears of facing backlash. According to a recent analysis from Bloomberg, more than two dozen public companies mentioned DEI as a risk factor in their securities filings. They cited that
DEI can cause legal and reputation harm if they take on too little or too much action on diversity, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court ended affirmative action in college admissions in June 2023.

    Fixed that for you.

Bud Light was the launching point for this but the

A traditionally All-American "macho" corp like HD stabbed

As far as I can tell, "Woke" is a derogatory term for those who believe
in equal opportunities for all. Isn't the fact that anyone can make in
in the States part and parcel of the Great American Dream?

Oh, and MAGA aka "Make America Great Again" is itself the biggest lie

    has to some extent.

That is *exactly* all it is. Racist Nazis like 186282@ud0s4.net can't argue against the facts that racism is still pervasive in American society, so instead
of even trying, which they know will be a failure, they just sneer at and deride

As far as I can tell, "Woke" is a derogatory term for those who believe
in equal opportunities for all. Isn't the fact that anyone can make in
in the States part and parcel of the Great American Dream?

The Woke INVENTED the term ... thought it made them sound
SO much more enlightened and superior than anyone else.

And the #1 problem wasn't equal rights, but UN-equal rights.
All their favorite little weirdo groups were suddenly claimed
to be 'more equal', more deserving, should always be in charge
of everyone and everything and don't you DARE critique yer
new gods ! The 'DEI' end was even worse, horrifically racist
    and outright dangerous.

Oh, and MAGA aka "Make America Great Again" is itself the biggest lie
ever: in some ways, America never stopped being great. It does seem to
enjoy shitting on its poorer inhabitants though, but I think it always
    has to some extent.

Make America GreatER Again ... ask Xi if that sounds better.

Hey, ya can always get greater !

DEI is the new version of affirmative action circa 1960's and 70's.
It was a miserable failure because hiring people or addmitting them to college
by favoring race did not work and just ended up taking up a position that someone
    qualified could have had.
DEI is on steroids compared to affirmative action however.
If I'm stuck on the 5th floor of a building on fire the last thing I need is some 5'3"
fire woman trying to extract my 205 lb 6.2 carcass out of the building.

SOME women are perfectly capable of whatever jobs. The
idea is to NOT institutionally thwart their careers.

However, esp for very physical jobs, a majority of
women are just NOT gonna be top rate. They may WANT
to be, but what is, is. Nature dealt them a different
hand, so to speak. Same standard goes for shrimpy
    little guys.

But don't stand in the way of that 6'2" viking princess
who wants to be in the fire service - Inga will squash
you in more ways than one.

And when I need to have surgery I don't want some doctor who was passed through medical
school based upon race rather than intelligence and the ability to do the work.
And don't kid yourself that is happening today.

Yea, I know. If I need a doc these days I pick
an OLD doc. Standards went WAY too far down over
the past decade. You'd be better off with an
import from China, Korea or Pakistan than
    anything recently Made In USA.

ANYway ... Harley is TRYING to undo it's Wokie sins,
but it may be too late. The brand will forever be
contaminated. Dunno how things are over at Indian/
Polaris ... but it MAY wind up as the only real
American(-ish) brand left (better bikes too).

Oh well, Triumph ain't awful - I think they still
sell the Rocket-3 which is a very strong machine
(with a surprisingly low CG despite the apparent
bulk) and the various Bonneville variants are
    olde-tyme classics.

No. I am a patriotic American who wants the country and its people to
thrive. Getting rid of Trump permanently
is an important step to getting there.

That constitutes a DEATH THREAT against a former President, Rudey:

18 U.S. Code § 871 - Threats against President and successors to the Presidency
    U.S. Code
    Notes

(a)Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail
or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any
letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any
threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon
the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice
President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office
of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or
knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the
President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the
order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect,
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years,
    or both.
(b)The terms “President-elect” and “Vice President-elect” as used in this section shall mean such persons as are the apparent successful
candidates for the offices of President and Vice President,
respectively, as ascertained from the results of the general elections
held to determine the electors of President and Vice President in
accordance with title 3, United States Code, sections 1 and 2. The
phrase “other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President” as used in this section shall mean the person next in the
order of succession to act as President in accordance with title 3,
United States Code, sections 19 and 20.

9-65.200 - Threats Against the President and Successors to the
Presidency; Threats Against Former Presidents; and Certain Other Secret
    Service Protectees
The Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division has
    supervisory authority over 18 U.S.C. §§ 871 and 879 cases. As great
caution must be taken in matters relating to the security of the persons protected by 18 U.S.C. § 871, United States Attorneys are encouraged to consult with the Counterterrorism Section (CTS) of the National Security Division when they have doubts on the prosecutive merit of a case. For
the same reason, dismissal of complaints under 18 U.S.C. § 871, when the defendant is in custody under the Mental Incompetency Statutes (18
U.S.C. §§ 4244, 4246), requires approval from CTS. In other cases,
United States Attorneys must consult prior to dismissing a count
involving, or entering into any sentence commitment or other case
    settlement involving a § 871 charge.

    https://www.secretservice.gov/newsroom/releases/2024/01/phoenix-man-arrested-making-online-death-threats-against-president-and

PHOENIX –David Michael Hanson, 41, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday
for making online threats against the President and Vice-President.
Hanson was charged by Federal criminal complaint on Tuesday with five
counts of Threats Against the President and Successors to the Presidency
and five counts of Interstate Communication of Threats.

The complaint alleges that in November and December of 2023, while
living in Arizona, Hanson used a social media platform to post threats
to murder the President and Vice President of the United States. On
November 19, 2023, Hanson posted online a series of threatening
statements including one that stated, “#joeAndKamala I’m asking you to resign on Monday your alternative is death brutally murdered.” After the
U.S. Secret Service spoke to Hanson and warned him that it was a Federal
crime to post such threats, on December 23, 2023, Hanson posted another
series of similar threats aimed at the President and Vice-President.

Each count of Threats Against the President and Successors to the
Presidency carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of
up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Each count
of Interstate Communication of Threats carries a maximum sentence of
five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.

A complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with
criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is
presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes
    guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The United States Secret Service is conducting the investigation in this
case. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, is
    handling the prosecution.

Looks like there are genuine legal hurdles, but you're assuming a

zero-sum economic system, i.e giving to one automatically takes from
    another.

    Not really.
It's the big picture that counts not the direct comparisons.

For example I live in a resort town, lot's of movie stars and movers and shakers come here
    during the summer months especially.
The hospitality field is almost exclusively migrants.
Other than the occasional drunk driving incident, they work hard and cause no problems.
They would be run out of town if they did.
We had a minor problem with MS-13 infiltrating the area and Trump came in an vowed to eliminate
    the problem and he did.
They abandoned my area and moved elsewhere.

My hairdresser is a migrant from South America.
She had been working for another shop and get this, during COVID, she left and opened her own shop.
People told her she was crazy but she did it and has clients, including me, lined up out the
    door.
She is a DACA person and a prime example of why DACA people who have done well and
stayed out of trouble should be at the top of the list for a path to citizenship.

Anyway, as a group, blacks tend to occupy lower skilled jobs but still need to feed
    their family and survive.
The illegal migrants are occupying those jobs because their overhead is much lower and thus
    they can work for less.
Living 20+ in one house is a classic example.

Since my grandparents were migrants from Western Europe I am obvious in favor of migration however
it has to be legal and dully vetted.

As for jobs, the illegals are the ones taking jobs from the blacks,
And as a DEI supporter that Harris is, that alone shows where her strategy is.

And people not allowed to work are still not allowed to work. But
no matter how you bellow, deciding a person is not allowed to work
can be costly and time consuming. And will remain so without
repealing parts of the Bill of Rights. Again this is not new.

Enter the USA legally and you are free to work and earn the American dream anytime
    you want to.
Legal migrants have been doing it for centuries.
Enter the country illegally and you should be sent back from where you came from.
    It's very simple.

Nothing there about taking jobs from anyone. Just about minority
    business loans.

    <https://www.sba.gov/business-guide/grow-your-business/minority-owned-businesses>

True but it shows the obvious bias against white men.

And this predates Biden. And Obama. And only now your ears perk
up? Whether it is a good idea, it is not a new idea.

Stop selling the dream, and maybe deal with reality?

Legal migrants have been doing it for centuries.
    <checks>
Ah, yes. Since Jamestown in 1602. ... oh, no hang on, the Native
Americas didn't issue them with visas.

Enter the country illegally and you should be sent back from where you came from.
    It's very simple.

    <checks>
Right, so that is the entire non-indigenous population then.
Don't be coming over here without a visa when they deport you.

Looks like there are genuine legal hurdles, but you're assuming a
zero-sum economic system, i.e giving to one automatically takes from
    another.

That's the entire Trump world view. Everything is transactional. For
someone to win, someone else must lose. There's no understanding that
working together can generate benefits for all.

Still, his retreat into protectionism will hopefully teach him, and
the MAGA idiots some bits of economics 101

It does come as a bit of a shock doesn't it? I've met a few, and as
others have said, facts are just useless. It really is super depressing.

One guy, a Brit who now lives in the US and who I used to manage in a
work environment said "well at least he does what he says he is going to
do" (build a wall, drain the swamp etc.). And yet I don't think any of

And how do you hold an entire ethnic group accountable for the actions
    of a minority?

Vulnerable school children being encouraged by heterophobic nutjob
"teachers" to "change sex" and lie to their parents about it.

Or how about people spouting bollocks (like the above) and frothing at
the mouth about something that is not happening.

Food, clothing, electricity, gas, natural gas, water prices have all increased by 20 to 30%.

    1) Inflation is a thing (always)
    2) It has been a world wide issue
    3) Fuck me, that's low.

Imagine being against diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Every right-thinking person is against the cult of DEI. It's a noxious religious
    cult.

First, diversity is not "our strength"; it's a societal burden to be surmounted.
As Robert Putnam conclusively showed, the more diversity there is in a community, the less trust there is, both across and *within* identity groups; the less trust in public institutions; the less voter participation; the less general civic participation; the less volunteerism. Do you want to know why there is so much broader and deeper public support for welfare and other public assistance programs in the Scandinavian countries? It's because they are *not* very diverse. People in the general public are more willing to support such programs because they know the support is going to people who look like and talk
like and share cultural values with them.

"Equity," as the DEI cultists use the word, means total equality of outcome. That is not a desirable social goal.

Inclusion is the only one I can support, particularly in employment. A company may be doing a stellar job of ensuring that there is no discrimination in hiring, and that everyone hired has an equal opportunity for advancement, but if
people they hire from historically marginalized groups are not made to feel welcome, that's a bad thing. Business firms ought to be incentivized to undertake inclusiveness initiatives.

actually do many of the things he's said.

It shows how completely politics has become divorced from empirical
reality in that, despite the US economy doing very well by all actual
measures, many peope voted for Trump because they thought it wasn't

[leaving aside the question of how much blame or credit a president,

well given inflation was 2.94%.. the economy really wasn't doing anything.

Now if the economy increased by 5% or even 4%.. then you would have
something.. but as it is the only 'increase' were in prices.

Gee, one quarter we have a 3.3% increase...
But let's put that into perspective..
"The U.S. inflation rate, measured as the percentage change in the
American Consumer Price Index over the previous year, was 3.24% in
    2023.Q4."
    https://econofact.org/factbrief/did-the-us-have-the-lowest-inflatio
    n-in-the- world-in-the-fourth-quarter-of-2023
So ACTUALLY we had a gain of 0.06% and that's assuming the 3.3%
    wasn't subject to rounding.
IOW.. the economy was effectively stagnant.
The only 'growth' was a result of prices increasing due to
    inflation.

To quote the article - "It seems like the engine of the US economy
continues to hum along where it's sputtering in other nations."

Hummming.. that's what you have when an electric motor stalls.. It
certainly isn't growth, it certainly isn't making things better.

With the exception of a slight flattening in 2022 Q1, the U.S. economy
has grown at a *faster pace* under Biden than it ever did under Trump.
And it still is, relative to the rest of the world, humming.

Which comic section did you get that from, Mr UCLA flunked economics?

Meanwhile, with the massive inflation under Biden.

Bwahaha! "Massive inflation" in single digits?

That's the kind of lie that right-wingnuts reflexively *have* to tell.

Left-wingnuts aren't smart enough to do the math. They're too busy
playing with their iphones while they wait in the church food bank lines.

I suppose a quarter were [sic] we aren't sinking is probably the
best we could have hoped for under Biden.

"were" is a typical scooterism. He writes "were" when he means
"where," and *also* "where" when he means "were."

The U.S. economy has not sunk in *any* quarter under Biden.

Right, the home, food, basic commodity price increases didn't happen
    either.

think it peaked at 7% in 2021, and was 6.5% in 2022. Last year it
was 3.4%, and now down to 2.6% [1]

In the UK it peaked at 10% in 2022, and was above 5% from late 2021 to

So, in summary - the USA suffered from some inflation after covid, but

So ACTUALLY we had a gain of 0.06% and that's assuming the 3.3% wasn't >>>> subject to rounding.
IOW.. the economy was effectively stagnant.
The only 'growth' was a result of prices increasing due to inflation.

To quote the article - "It seems like the engine of the US economy
continues to hum along where it's sputtering in other nations."

Hummming.. that's what you have when an electric motor stalls.. It
certainly isn't growth, it certainly isn't making things better.

    You need to learn perspective.
While the rest of the world was having big issues, you did very nicely in comparison.

after +23% inflation from Biden I could hardly claim we did very nicely.

Where on earth did you get that figure from? You seem to have summed up
over the entire period in office, or something. Inflation is generally discussed in terms of *annual* inflation, not compounded, so you kind of
moved the goalposts into new and uncharted territory of lies, damn lies
and statistics. And I'm not even sure you compounded it properly.

Also note that inflation went down fairly uniformly from an abrupt peak
when Biden first took office, which was a time when anything he did in
office wouldn't have had much time to take effect. Possibly there was
some sort of world-wide effect on prices? Some mass disruption to
economies around 2020-2021, maybe? Can't think what that could have been.

Bwahaha! "Massive inflation" in single digits?

23% yea, I would call that a problem.

Where on earth did you get that figure from? You seem to have summed up >>>> over the entire period in office, or something. Inflation is generally >>>> discussed in terms of *annual* inflation, not compounded, so you kind
of moved the goalposts into new and uncharted territory of lies, damn
lies and statistics. And I'm not even sure you compounded it properly.

You are spot-on correct on both points. Inflation is *always* discussed
as an annual rate, even if talking about inflation as measured at the
end of, say, a quarter. So if the Bureau of Labor Statistics says in its >>> October release that prices at the end of Q3 2024 were 2.2% higher than
they were at the end of Q3 2023, it means that prices rose at an *annual >>> rate* of 2.2% over the previous 12 months.

scooter is fabricating his 23% number. scooter *never* gives a source
for his fake data. That's because...it's *fake*.

    As usual Rudy is

0% spot-on right. Yes, scooter. I do not know economics and you do. You
are utterly knowledgeable of the subject.

You pulled that 23% figure out of your extensive knowledge, scooter. It's *true*.

    Thanks Rudy..

I think back then we were just so much more used to filtering out
rubbish like this, be it with actual killfiles or just selective
reading. The traffic volume was such that you couldn't really read
    _everything_ anyway.

Intersting to note though that the insults still haven't changed, and
it seems that they still can't do any better than accusing each other
of certain perfectly every day sexual procivities which they appear to
    hold in low regard.
