• Why isn't Ry Cooder in the Rock Hall of Fame?

From Willie@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jul 23 08:58:49 2021
For his albums in the 70's alone, he's deserving. And then all his collaboration projects. Methinks.

I'm with you. Ry has made so many contributions to the music world and
it's a shame he hasn't been recognized when so many lesser artists
have. He should make it in solely on the basis of Buena Vista Social
Club and his work on many other film soundtracks. But he's also among
the best guitar players in the rock world, especially slide guitar, a
great composer and songwriter. And who else has played with as diverse
a group as Bill Monroe and Doc Watson, Captain Beefheart, Taj Mahal,
The Rolling Stones, Ali Farke Toure and V.M. Bhatt?

Other mindboggling omissions from the HoF:
    Lowell George & Little Feat
Richard Thompson (don't think he's ever even been nominated!)
    Al Kooper
    MC5
    Jethro Tull (seriously??)
    King Crimson
Phish (even tho I'm not a phan)
    Los Lobos
    Brian Eno
    Willie Nelson
    Merle Haggard
    Link Wray
    Captain Beefheart
Carole King (as a performer; she's in as a songwriter)
    Warren Zevon
    Gram Parsons (!!!)

Captain Beefheart and Jethro Tull aren't in? Sheesh. I was never into King Crimson, but I totally love Robert Fripp's League of Gentlemen, so need to give King Crimson a try. Also with you on Warren Zevon (well, and all of your suggestions). Zevon's "A
Certain Girl" beats the Ernie K-Doe original, IMO (especially the outro): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRk8znla4H0
