On 25 February 1997 professor Tony Movshon wrote a glowing review of the
EMI Beethoven symphony set recorded in 1957-1960 by the Berlin
Philharmonic conducted by André Cluytens (*):

"I cannot praise this set highly enough. ... This is the work of a
    master musician."

Today I listened to #6, the Pastoral symphony, again.

And again I conclude: yes, this is _extremely_ beautiful music.

In the next few hours, I want to keep hearing this in my head and will
not listen to any other music!

The interpretation seems middle-of-the-road and natural, and yet I find
    it overwhelming.

The grandeur has a delicate quality.

The sound is excellent on my Tivoli 'Music System+'.

    And the orchestra sounds great.

Seconded! I purchased the Cluytens cycle on the strength of that recommendation.
