The best versions of "Night Train" are all instrumental. My three favorites are by Jimmy Forrest, the Viscounts, and James Brown.

I rememeber some debate about this one at the time of the "Strictly Instrumental" battle.

It did finally get on the list along with several other "borderline"
    cases

I guess so is Whitburn, it's not listed as an instrumental in his "Top Pop Singles" 12th Edition.

Let me ask you, in the James Brown record, what "instrument" is naming all those cities, like Atlanta, Georgia and Raleigh, North Carolina?

Shouldn't that argument then extend to things like "Tequila"? And
"Last Night? And "Wipe Out" ?

I'm willing to overlook it when it's just one word with the song title a couple of times. I think that's reasonable.

I guess that's my approach too (but we did stretch that to include
JB's "NIght Train" in the Strictly Instrumental battle)

As I recall Percy Faith's "Song From Moulin Rouge" was the REALLY
contentious contender to that battle----with some folk insisting it
was an instrumental despite the fact that Felicia Sanders' vocals take
    up half of the number.

Of course it's not an instrumental. It seems quite egotistical of Duane Eddy to claim otherwise.
