I was wondering where this was in 1965. It came out then on this album:

LP-1503 - The Real Folk Blues - Sonny Boy Williamson [1965] One Way Out/Too Young To Die/Trust My Baby/Checkin' Up On My Baby/Sad To Be Alone/Got To Move//Bring It On Home/Down Child/Peach Tree/Dissatisfied/That's All I Want/Too Old To Think

Some sources say 1966, but I think all 3 of the albums in this series came out together late in 1965. Here are the other two.

    LP-1501 - The Real Folk Blues - Muddy Waters [1965] Mannish Boy/Screamin' And Crying/Just To Be With You/Walking In The Park/Walking Blues/Canary Bird//Same Thing/Gypsy Women/Rollin' And Tumblin'/40 Days And 40 Nights/Little Geneva/You Can't Lose
    What You Ain't Never Had

LP-1502 - The Real Folk Blues - Howlin' Wolf [1965] Killing Floor/Louise/Poor Boy/Sittin' On Top Of The World/Nature/My Country Sugar Mama//Tail Dragger/Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy/Natchez Burnin'/Build For Comfort/Ooh Baby Hold Me/Tell Me What I've
    Done
We've discussed this before and yes I agree its a real nightmare. Some sources say its a 1965 release some say 1966. The fact that Blues Unlimited always had it as a 1966 release tends to sway it for me.

The Sonny Boy CD box set I used to have has a 1965 date on "Bring It On Home." I'm leaving it there.

The Jan 29, 1966 Cash Box has an article about Chess doing some big convention in San Juan, PR on January 15th where they sold over a million dollars worth of new product to distributors from all over the country. The 3 "The Real Folk Blues" albums are
mentioned in the article. I'm sure they brought their product down at least a few days before the January 15 date. For them to be 1965 releases all 3 albums would have to have been pressed up and gotten to Chess in time to have them at the Puerto Rico
convention, which I would think means they would all have to have ben pressed up between January 2 and like January 9 or so, and not before the new year.

I checked the last Cash Box issue of 1965 which was dated December 25 and there were no reviews of the albums that week, or in the first 4 issues of 1966.

    Here’s my 1966 Top 100 favorites

    65. (Baby) For You - Arthur Alexander
    66. 60 Minutes Of Your Love - Homer Banks
    77. I’m Your Bread Maker Baby - Slim Harpo

Did not know these, all are 5-6 territory.

    69. The Clock - Contenders

I guess you heard this a lot in Upper Darby.

    79. He Won’t Bite Me Twice - Big Amos

Did not know it. It's good and so is the flip side.

    85. “Fats” Shake ‘Em Up – “Fats” Greene ft. Pritchard

Not on Youtube, is Larry available?

    99. Ali Baba - Sandpipers

How did I miss this? I was ready to rip into you thinking it was the flip side of "Guantanamera" or something.

    102. I Believe I’ll Go Back Home - Ovations
    109. I Believe I'll Go Back Home - Ovations

You must REALLY like this one!

    106. I’m Losing You - Kenny Ballard & Fabulous Soul Brothers

Don't like this, must be Northern.

    108. Dirty Woman Blues - Joe Johnson

    111. Call On Me - Percy Milem
    118. (Git Your) Backfield In Motion - Poindexter Brothers
    119. I Miss You Baby (How I Miss You) - Marv Johnson

    BEST HOT 100 No.1 SINGLE

When A Man Loves A Woman - Percy Sledge

    96 Tears - ?

    WORST HOT 100 No.1 SINGLE

Ballad Of The Green Berets – S/Sgt. Barry Sadler

    Same

    BEST R&B No.1 SINGLE

When A Man Loves A Woman – Percy Sledge

    Hold On, I'm A-Comin' - Sam & Dave

    WORST R&B No.1 SINGLE

    It's A Man's World - JB

    BEST C&W NO.1 SINGLE

    Distant Drums – Jim Reeves

    Don't Know most of them

About the best of a pretty mediocre bunch that made #1 this year.

Incidentally strictly speaking this is the ORIGINAL of the song. Tho Orbison had the first release on the ditty Reeves recorded this as a demo way back in 1961

    WORST C&W NO.1 SINGLE

I Want To Go With You – Eddy Arnold

    Don't know most of them.

    BEST UK ARTST SINGLE

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore – The Walker Brothers

But if --tho’ a UK recording---this falls on the grounds of all three “Walker Brothers” being native born American citizens then….

    Goin’ Back – Dusty Springfield

Gimme Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group

174 ¦ The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore ¦ Walker Brothers

Tho all three of them were American this is one of my favorite UK recordings of the year. Much better than the Frankie Valli original
