FINAL RANKINGS
1. The Laughs On You (It Was Just For Laughs) - Harptones - 23 (3 first place votes)
2. Looka No Hair - Professor Longhair - 23 (5-4)
3. I Love Her So - Velvetones - 23
4. Good Bread Alley – Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson
A 3 way tie with Rick's Harptones taking first as it had 3 first place votes to just 2 apiece for the other 2 items. It was also the highest ranked item among the 3 that were tied on 5 of the 9 ballots, with 2 apiece for the other two.
Mark's Longhair takes second in a 5-4 two way tie breaker to take second place and move on. Steve's Velvs were the odd man out, finishing third and exiting from the contest. And the best record IN the contest IMO, Roger's Cleanhead, ends up last and is
done.

It just wasn't our sort of JLL, in the same way, as recently discussed,
"That's My Desire" isn't our sort of Chuck Berry. Even the greatest stumble when handed songs that don' t suit them.

Yes, it's pretty mediocre Jerry Lee compared to some of the great stuff the compilers of the LP containing "Goodnight Irene" had to work with. They had MUCH better tracks on hand that could have been used instead of being allowed to languish in the
vaults for decades---gems like "Milkshake Madamoiselle","Wild One" (currently being used in a UK Persil soap powder TV ad BTW) and others

I agree that CB's "That's My Desire" (which I actually never heard

"Anthony Boy," but over the years it's grown on me and now I think it's
rather cute.

Certainly baffling how they could have let "Milkshake Mademoiselle" lay unreleased for so long--it's classic JLL on a par with "High School Confidential" and the like. But I really like his version of "Goodnight Irene". In fact, it's the best version I know of!

Mark Cashes in again with the winner of the group. Diane is still not the Fool as she takes second and also moves
into the ELITE EIGHT. Rick's Strangers was third and Steve's Fulson was last, and both of them are out.
So, Rick and Mark each have 2 items in the ELITE EIGHT, with one apiece for Roger and Diane. There are 2 slots remaining and they will be decided tomorrow. Rick, Roger, Carl and Me each have something in tomorrow's group.

One I like, 3 I don't. If I had to put the operatic "My Hero" second,
this is a bad group for me.

Hallelujah, Brucie wins the group!
My Travelers takes first place by one point over Roger's Notes and Carl's Nellie. Roger's Notes win a 5-4 tie breaker to take second place and move into the ELITE EIGHT, which knocks Carl's Nellie out of the contest. Rick's Sharps was last and is also
out.
