• BATTLE Comment #2 - 1957, Ella Fitzgerald

From RWC@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 18 23:20:05 2024
Only 1 Ella Fitzgerald song took part in the Battle for 1957:

    primarily conservative 50s Adult Pop

    Ella Fitzgerald - Manhattan - Verve 10050, ranked 88 out of 518 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMa8b-r3x5A

here is a more entertaining Latin side from 1957 that, imo, should
also have been in the Battle

    Ella Fitzgerald - Hotta Chocolotta - Verve 10031 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwiMpBAFZ-A

You had the chance to take part in the battle and to make nominations.
Bringing all this up now SEVENTEEN years after the event is pretty
    futile,no?

And BTW the fact that Ella's "Manhattan" was included in that battle has NOTHING IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM to do with the fact that it is my
favorite song about New York City

Most definitely not futile, these great Battle lists are still
    referred to today...
These posts are introducing additional sides for members to consider
    and perhaps enjoy TODAY.

I'm guessing that if the city had not been NYC, its ranking, instead
of a gob smacking 88, would more likely have been 288 or 388,
demonstrating that lyrics can count for a lot :)
