    disappointed. 🙂

    Here's the playlist:

    3. DO WHAT YOU DID, Thurston Harris

Proving that Thurston lately of The Lamplighters wasn't a one trick pony
as a solo artist here's one of his other records that along with "Be
Baba Leba" and others support that

    5. LAWDY MISS CLAWDY, Lloyd Price

    My top 5 1952 faves

    1. Lawdy Miss Clawdy Lloyd Price
    2. Have Mercy Baby Dominoes
    3. One Mint Julep Clovers
    4. Jambalaya Hank Williams
    5. Goin' Home Fats Domino

    6. BIM BAM BOOM, The El Dorados

Gee, now wouldn't that have been a GREAT name for a rock 'n' roll/r&b
    fans magazine?

    7. BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAY, Ricky Nelson

My personal favorite single by him

    8. I’M GONNA BE A WHEEL SOMEDAY, Fats Domino

    Here's the 1957 Bobby Mitchell original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9aXjIlky0s

    12. SO SAD (To Watch Good Love Go Bad), The Everly Brothers

The solid "Cathy's Clown" demanded a strong followup---and got it with
"When Will I Be Loved" a remnant left over from their old label Cadence.

The REAL followup "So Sad" was nowhere in comparison.Luckily they got
back on track soon after.... and walked right back......

    16. STAY, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs

Sad to read of the passing of Maurice the other day at the age of 86.
He'll always be remembered for the great "Stay" a #1 hit in the US in
1960 and a #10 hit here in UK

Here's where it sits in my personal Top 5 1960 faves

    1. Georgia On My Mind Ray Charles
    2. Stay Maurice Williams & Zodiacs
    3. Let It Rock Chuck Berry
    4. Spoonful Howlin' Wolf
    5. A Fool In Love Ike & Tina Turner

    18. BOOM BOOM, John Lee Hooker

Probably the first real honest-to-God blues single I ever bought in 1963
(on Stateside here) b/w "Frisco Blues"

    20. AROUND AND AROUND, Chuck Berry

My Chuck Berry Top 5 for 1958

    1. Johnny B. Goode
    2. Reelin And Rocking
    3. Sweet Little Sixteen
    4. Run,Rudolph,Run
    5. Around And Around

    22. HERE I STAND, Wade Flemons &The Newcomers

First version I ever heard of this was The Rip Chords in 1963....I still
    like it the best

    25. TO BE LOVED, Jackie Wilson

I liked his big "Reet Petite" UK hit a lot---but detested the "To Be
    Loved" followup and still do

    26. WOMAN LOVE, Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps

From 1956 here's the Jimmy Johnson original on Starday before Gene
    Vincent's version

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwL4WvTQxn4

    29. GOT A LOT O’ LIVIN’ TO DO, Elvis Presley

Good number from his smash movie "Loving You" and memorable for the
scene where Elvis jumps down off stage singing this with a section of
the audience in full view---including his mother sitting in an aisle-row
    seat

    31. SEA CRUISE, Frankie Ford

GREAT!! As is the Huey Smith original

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7BA1pu4sXk

    33. ONE HAND LOOSE, Charlie Feathers

Easily Charlie's best ever and one of the greatest rockabilly singles of
    all time

    34. RUNAWAY, Del Shannon

Loved this back then and nothing has changed since. A solid #1 hit on
    both sides of the puddle

    37. ALL ALONE AM I, Brenda Lee

This gal could really sell a good ballad. This IMO was one of her best

    39. HEART AND SOUL, The Cleftones

I still remember radio here alternating play on this revived oldie
between this version and the Jan & Dean version. Both were out at about
the same time. Liked both then and nothing has changed

    41. BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL, The Beach Boys

For some unknown reason Capitol never released this on a single here (as neither did they with the previous "Surfer Girl"). No idea why

    43. MAMA, TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTER, J.B. Lenoir

One of his very best (and it's MAMMA Talk To Your Daughter" - I have the original 45RPM)

    45. WHEN WE GET MARRIED, The Dreamlovers

With a whole host of singles to their name in USA over here in UK they
had just ONE!! Yes this one and on UK Columbia. Nice performance and I
    still have my copy

    46. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE, Harvey & The Moonglows

One of the very few Moonglows singles to appear here and sadly one of
their worst IMO. Memorable only for the part it plays in one of my
favorite movies---the great "A Bronx Tale"

Off the top of my head, this, along with Jailhouse Rock, are probably my

Hartford's oldies station played the version with the back-up vocals. It
was only in the '90s, when Rhino put out ROCK THIS TOWN: ROCKABILLY

Yes, the Ricky Legendary Masters double album that I had also had the
version with the Jordanaires. I did not know that they were not on the
single until sometime in this century.

I don't understand the hate for this record that exists in these parts.
That said, my original choice was "Blue Velvet," but I needed to fill
four minutes of airtime at the end of my show. And "Blue Velvet" was too short. Hence the last-minute programming change.

Not by me. I think it's excellent. I remember the day it was performed
at the start of the Grammy awards on TV. And I enjoyed the controversy
over the "n" sound which didn't get removed from the original released
    version.

in the 1950s *most* *middle-class* children did not know the F word
    :-)

"Middle-class children were typically raised in environments where
such language was discouraged and often not heard in everyday
    conversation, media, or public settings."

Are you crazy? Of course we knew it. It was written on the subway
walls. We didn't *utter* it, but we certainly knew it.

Are *you* crazy? :) Only the following locations had subways in the
1950s: NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Rochester, Cleveland,
Newark. In the 1950s, California did not have any subway systems.
Only 10-11% of the US population lived in these 7 cities, and not
every child would have used the subway.

"Written on the subway walls" was a Paul Simon reference, not meant to literally imply that it wasn't written anyplace else.

Graffitti in the 1950s and 60s was quite primitive compared to what it
has become today. I refer you to the closing pages of "The Catcher In
The Rye," published in 1951, where Holden speculates that after he dies,
some vandal is going to write "Fuck you" on his tombstone.
