The latest ROOTS ROCK RADIO is archived at the link below until October
    20th. Here's the playlist:

    2. MAYBELLENE, Chuck Berry

Overwhelming winner in the old 2013 Dynamite Debuts Battle

    1. Chuck Berry - Maybellene
    2. Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
    3. The Drifters - Money Honey
    4. Elvis Presley - Blue Moon Of Kentucky
    5. The Dell-Vikings - Come Go With Me

    15. TELL ME WHY, The Rob Roys

This was #19 on the list of favorite vocal group records from 1957
that I posted the other day. It was 1961 before I ever heard the
song--and then in the Belmonts version. I liked it much better when I
finally caught up with the great original

    16. NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, Eddie Cochran

First released on the UK London label EP "Cherished Memories" in
November 1961. The other tracks were "Weekend"/"Cherished Memories"/
    "Pretty Girl"

    19. ALL SHOOK UP, Elvis Presley

The first Elvis single to top the charts here in UK. "Heartbreak Hotel"
came close as did "Hound Dog" but this one was the first

    20. LOVE ME TO PIECES, Janis Martin

Never one of my favorites but certainly much better than the more well
known Jill Corey cover that became the big chart hit

    21. BOP-A-LENA, Ronnie Self

One of his very best that appeared later in the 70's on the Gustin label."Gustin" was the surname of Val's assistant Bonnie......

    25. I BELIEVE TO MY SOUL, Ray Charles

GREAT Ray Charles number that often gets overlooked. Here's how it
stands on my 1959 faves list :-

    What'd I Say Ray Charles
    You're So Fine Falcons
    Memphis Tennessee Chuck Berry
    There Goes My Baby Drifters
That Is Rock & Roll Coasters
I Only Have Eyes For You Flamingos
    I'm Ready Fats Domino
    Bad Girl Miracles
Money (That’s What I Want) Barrett Strong
Let The Good Times Roll Ray Charles
    Poison Ivy Coasters
    Love Potion # 9 Clovers
I Know It’s Hard But It’s Fair Five Royales
Don't Mess With My Man Irma Thomas
I Believe To My Soul Ray Charles

    30. YOU’RE SO FINE, The Falcons

And the above list also serves well to show how much I love one of the
    greatest records of all time

    31. BIG BLON’ BABY, Jerry Lee Lewis

I recall years ago being mildly surprised to find Ronnie Self had the
original on this one (1958) before Jerry's version (1959) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4NY9W-WiR0

    34. OH PRETTY WOMAN, Roy Orbison

Like "Mean Woman Blues" this was a "Big O" record that I never really
warmed to and that naturally went on to become one of his very biggest
    hits

    39. SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL, Big Joe Turner

Not only my #1 in 1954 but my #1 of all time!! (there's no "Big" BTW)

    1. Shake,Rattle And Roll Joe Turner
    2. Good Rockin' Tonight Elvis Presley
    3. I've Got A Woman Ray Charles
    4. That's All Right Elvis Presley
    5. Blue Moon Of Kentucky Elvis Presley

    40. TUTTI FRUTTI, Little Richard

    And my #1 in 1955........

    1. Tutti-Frutti Little Richard
    2. Maybellene Chuck Berry
    3. Baby Let's Play House Elvis Presley
    4. Mystery Train Elvis Presley
    5. Ain't It A Shame Fats Domino

    43. THE SAVAGE, The Ventures

Better in the Shadows 1961 original IMO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLaEvtixDg0

    Nice addition to the '50s.

    20. LOVE ME TO PIECES, Janis Martin

You could have played an entire Jack Scott album and it wouldn't have
bothered me anywhere near as much as this one track. I detest it (by
any artist). It makes my skin crawl. And to add insult to injury, this
is the 2nd show you've played it!!!

    21. BOP-A-LENA, Ronnie Self
    --------------
Although not a rockabilly fan, I am very fond of this record.

    36. OH STARLIGHT, The Quinns

Argh! You *would* play this when I was in the bathroom!

Very good show; thanks again, Dean.

Here's one that would fit in real well with your show. from 1958. Maybe
    you've played it before.

Ah, yes! Willie Egan. I have a bunch of his tunes on the Relic album,
THE ROCKIN' BLUES. I'll have to bring it in with me some time.

I don't think this one is on there. Relic has the Vita stuff from
    earlier.
