    Jimmy Swaggart has died, age 90. I once saw him live at an outdoor
    stadium in Portland, Maine. He sang religious songs, but they rocked.
    His piano playing sounded much like that of his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis,
    and he was backed by a band and a couple of Black female singers.

    I enjoyed the music very much. The preaching and the incessant requests
    for money, not so much. But admission was free.

    This was, I think, in 1980, before all the sex scandals. He could have
    had a successful career as a rock musician IMO.

    Since you experienced him live - how can you describe what the energy was when he was speaking/preaching.

    Some singers I've seen really electrified a room and others not so much. I remember some years ago when Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw performed together. The show started with her singing and you could feel in the space everyone was like "hurry up all
    ready" - such dead energy. It wasn't like she was bad - she sang quite well but it felt so lifeless. When he stepped on stage - the energy totally changed - it was electric.

    Oh, he was energetic, all right. Very emotional. But I am not a
    Christian and it all rang false to me.
