Mercury Records had three main subsidiary labels during our time period.
Both Wing and Emarcy had nothing that would have made the above list.
The later Smash subsidiary had “Hey Baby” from Bruce Channel in late
1961 that if included would take the #13 spot in the list above (pushing
    lower entries down one position)

“Hey Baby” was not a Smash recording having been released earlier in
    1961 on Le Cam label

Okay, here's a little mystery. Mercury #70290, from 1954, is not on
youtube. Global Dog (archived) gives the title as "What It Was (It Was
A Football Game), parts 1 & 2" and the artist as "The Duke Of Paducah."
The artist was a cornball comedian. Now I'm wondering if this is an
original version of "What It Was Was Football" by the much more famous
cornball comedian Andy Griffith. Anyone know?

    -----------
You know, I recently learned that "football" in England originally meant
what we now call "rugby." Soccer, at that time, was called "association football," with that modifier. And the word "soccer" somehow derived
    from the word "association."

    So it's not that simple.
