BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old with both criminal sexual conduct and robbery after he allegedly victimized a woman on a walking path in Brooklyn Park.
A criminal complaint details the charges against Cade Alfred Talawalay in connection with the incident, which was reported the afternoon of April 24. Brooklyn Park squads were dispatched to a residence shortly before 4 p.m. to follow up on a report of a
sexual assault. The victim told officers she and her wife had engaged in an argument earlier in the day, and she went on a walk to cool down.
The victim told police she was in the area of a walking trail near a carwash just off 73rd Ave. when she was approached by a suspect she described as a small-statured African American male in his mid-20s. She said he pointed a gun in her face, demanded
her cell phone and then forced her to perform a sex act. The victim said her attacker said he wouldn't kill her unless she told someone what had happened.
After the suspect let her go the woman says she ran to a bus and told the driver what had happened in an effort to get help.
A sexual assault kit was completed at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Investigators working the case obtained surveillance video and released a still image of the suspect in hopes the public could help identify him.
On April 27 Brooklyn Park police were contacted by a man who told them the suspect in the picture was his stepson, Cade Talawalay. The man brought Talawalay into the police station, where he was detained. Police say officers executing a search warrant
later found the victim's stolen cell phone in the defendant's bedroom.
Cade Talawalay remains in custody.
