    Oops.

My brothers kid had to do a face to face presentation for Elon a week
or two back, and the brother said it must have went ok.  He's still
    got a job.

    What's he do?

    What's he do?

Not really sure exactly what he does even though I'm close to this
nephew. He was an all-American track athlete for MIT and I had the
ability to go see him at various places around the country running when
nobody else really could do that. He appreciated having at least one
family member see him. Great kid, and both he and his wife now work for
Musk. When I ask him what he's working on, it usually is over my head.
Some kind of programming, with insane math concepts thrown in. It's
something I often joke about. That little kid, the nerdy one we all
watched grow up who seemed so awkward at times, ends up being an actual
    rocket scientist living his dream.

Well, find out. As I understand it, starting from about a minute
before launch and until the first stage lands and the second stage and
its payload gets where it's going, both stages of the rocket are
controlled entirely by onboard computers. No humans involved. It would
be interesting to know what part he's involved in............and if
I'm correct about no humans involved in flying the thing - including
docking at the ISS. I hate to shuffle around knowing wrong things.

To be honest, I'm a little uncomfortable talking about his work duties
other than he works for the guy, it's very demanding, and he loves it.
I would hate to be responsible for saying something that shouldn't have
been said, or was said improperly, and he had to pay the price.

I'm hoping I get my TOAD all set up shortly after getting my baseplate
and making the journey out to that part of the country to see him. I
look forward to some face to face talk about how it is working in the environment he does.

    So he's a rocket scientist.

    So he's a rocket scientist.

A couple years back I thought he was nuts. He was highly sought after
coming out of MIT, and NASA recruited him out of college and he worked
at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). I thought that was the coolest
thing ever to be able to work for NASA at a place like that. Then he
said he had a few other things in the works as other places were trying
to get him to come work for them. I couldn't for the life of me figure
out how someone would quit a job working for NASA and the JPL. Seems he
    knew better.

He still calls me Uncle sticks ;-)
