Except for the Oregonian, Mr. Dodge with his $8.7 mil electric bill
savings, Biden's economy is having a negative effect on about everyone
else. The higher inflation gets, the lower his approval rating. The
mystery to me is how there are still 30 percent of the people polled who
still approve of this catastrophe of a president.

Maybe you can borrow a couple hundred grand from CC&P from his $8.7

Yep. In another lifetime I had a girlfriend who had her own
business, doing some general accounting for small businesses, but mostly
doing tax papers for regular folks. For a season I was her receptionist/assistant. Americans are habitually over extended and
consider that "normal". It didn't matter how much money someone was
making. They were spending all of it, and then some. They all thought
they were struggling to "get by". I'll bet that just about all the fancy
cars, boats, pickups, RVs, homes and etc, etc, I see, were all bought on credit. The result is that if the economy cools off even a little those
people are going to have to make some adjustments very quickly. For a
lot of people this means not eating as many restaurant meals and cutting
back on what they spend on entertainment. Who knows, maybe even cut back
on what they're spending on fancy coffee and manicures. THE POOR DEARS!
For people with a lot of children and a limited income this is going to
be a real problem--and always will be.

Here's an even better chart of our GDP per person over time and
adjusted for inflation. You can see all of our recessions right there.
Look what happens with every recession. There's a dip in the economy,
but it doesn't drop back by decades. Even at the low point we're still
more prosperous then we were before and after the last recession. With
every succeeding recession we have a more prosperous starting point. IOW
even during a recession, Americans still have more spending power than
they had just a few years ago.

    https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/A939RX0Q048SBEA

Personally I have not been negatively affected by the economy
lately. Just the opposite. Things have been improving for us. Covid has
slowed us down a little, but I expect to return to our regular travel
schedule soon. I don't know anyone who has been seriously negatively
impacted. I see a lot of people around me who are obviously doing well.
Here lately it seems like new cars are popping up all over my
neighborhood. It doesn't look like anyone has been out shopping for
something that will burn less gas either. Remember when people used to
jump to small cars whenever the price of gas jumped? I haven't seen any
sign of that happening this time.

There are huge new 3 story homes with small yards close to us. One
of the people who lives there was having a garage sale the other day. So
    maybe they qualify as "suffering"?

OTOH we keep getting more fancy coffee kiosks around here all the
time. It seems like wherever we go every town of any size has at least
one. On well traveled highways we even have them more or less in the
    middle of nowhere.

    ----------------------------------------------------
More than 75 percent of voters in the poll said the economy was
“extremely important” to them. And yet only 1 percent rated economic conditions as excellent. Among those who are typically working age —
voters 18 to 64 years old — only 6 percent said the economy was good
or excellent, while 93 percent rated it poor or only fair.
    ...
Widespread concerns about the economy and inflation have helped turn
the national mood decidedly dark, both on Mr. Biden and the trajectory
of the nation. More than three-quarters of registered voters see the
United States moving in the wrong direction, a pervasive sense of
pessimism that spans every corner of the country, every age range and
racial group, cities, suburbs and rural areas, as well as both
    political parties.

Only 13 percent of American voters said the nation was on the right
track — the lowest point in Times polling since the depths of the
financial crisis more than a decade ago.
    ...
For Mr. Biden, that bleak national outlook has pushed his job approval
rating to a perilously low point. Republican opposition is predictably overwhelming, but more than two-thirds of independents also now
disapprove of the president’s performance, and nearly half disapprove strongly. Among fellow Democrats his approval rating stands at 70
percent, a relatively low figure for a president, especially heading
into the 2022 midterms when Mr. Biden needs to rally Democrats to the
polls to maintain control of Congress.
    ...
Ms. Farrier, a Democrat who voted for Mr. Biden in 2020, said she had
hoped he might have been able to do more to heal the nation’s
divisions, but now, as a single mother, she is preoccupied with what
she described as crippling increases in her cost of living. “I went
from living a comfortable lifestyle to I can’t afford anything
    anymore,” she said.
    ...
More than 75 percent of voters in the poll said the economy was
“extremely important” to them. And yet only 1 percent rated economic conditions as excellent. Among those who are typically working age —

Yep. In another lifetime I had a girlfriend who had her own
business, doing some general accounting for small businesses, but mostly doing tax papers for regular folks. For a season I was her receptionist/assistant. Americans are habitually over extended and
consider that "normal". It didn't matter how much money someone was
making. They were spending all of it, and then some. They all thought
they were struggling to "get by". I'll bet that just about all the fancy cars, boats, pickups, RVs, homes and etc, etc, I see, were all bought on credit. The result is that if the economy cools off even a little those people are going to have to make some adjustments very quickly. For a
lot of people this means not eating as many restaurant meals and cutting
back on what they spend on entertainment. Who knows, maybe even cut back
on what they're spending on fancy coffee and manicures. THE POOR DEARS!
For people with a lot of children and a limited income this is going to
be a real problem--and always will be.

Here's an even better chart of our GDP per person over time and adjusted for inflation.

Covid has slowed us down a little, but I expect to return to our regular travel schedule soon. I don't know anyone who has been seriously negatively impacted.

So maybe they qualify as "suffering"?

OTOH we keep getting more fancy coffee kiosks around here all the time. It seems like wherever we go every town of any size has at least
one. On well traveled highways we even have them more or less in the
    middle of nowhere.

Theory don't mean squat if it don't work.

That what happened to "Carl A.", he left his frequent, & profound, winger posts on RORT, and moved out to a bedroom community of San Fransisco... He bade farewell, explaining that his wife forced him to do so... I like to think when he got out
here in Commiefornia, that he grew his thinning hair into a cute little pony tail, bought a cool pair of granny specs, and took up wearing cargo shorts, & Birkenstock sandals.... We never heard from him again.....

    Mr. RORT History

eh, If you move to Bend you can keep the cargo shorts and Berkies, otherwise you will need to up grade your fashion game. Maybe a track
suit for running or some fancy bike riding clothes. If you are obviously
not athletic you can always go with a jersey from the University of
Oregon or OSU. If you're really hip you can wear a t-shirt that was silk screened to advertise one of the towns on the coast. If you're a rebel
without a clue and you move to Portland you can go with a jersey from
one of our two professional soccer teams.

Fair warning: Outside of Portland the soccer jerseys will not score
    any fashion points.

other day. So maybe they qualify as "suffering"?

Â Â Â  OTOH we keep getting more fancy coffee kiosks around here all
the time. It seems like wherever we go every town of any size has at
least one. On well traveled highways we even have them more or less
    in the middle of nowhere.

Times can't be too bad. This guy's gonna get $230.5 million:

Yeah, but Biden's only getting $400 thousand. How fair is that?

And look at what my $110 only gets me. You'd think I'd at least get an equitable 110Mbps. Inflation sucks.

Right, even as incompetent and unqualified as Biden is, he should get
his fair share. Isn't that what equity is all about? Otherwise, he may
have to retire to Oregon and get in on that $8.7 million electric bill
    savings.

I'm sure glad you've straightened me out about all the whiners being QAnon/Trumpers. I was about to start believing that fake poll
information up there published by the rightwing NYT.

I freakin' love it. If one of the "lefties" was presenting this information we'd get all the usual talking points: "Polls are
unreliable." "If you ask the questions differently you can slant the
results." "It's only opinions." On and on. Now it's gospel.

One of the things perpetually wrong with the country's direction
question is that no one agrees on the "right" direction. Some folks want
to head much more conservative. Some folks want to head much more
liberal. And a lot of folks want to head in other directions.

I love the response from the working age people. We are currently
living in the best jobs market I have ever seen in my entire life. It
makes me a bit crazy because as this point I really don't need or want a
job. I could probably go out and be working sometime this afternoon, at
the latest, if I felt like it, for more than the legal minimum wage,
which ain't all that shabby here right now.

What it really boils down to is how real is this boogie man. We
should find out soon. The math of the situation is that people who sell
fancy coffee and fancy manicures should be worried. The rest of us? Not
so much. The economy, as always, marches on and upward because the
things driving it have not changed. As usual the Republicans are singing
and dancing for a bad economy because they think that helps them
    politically.

It isn't a fairy godmother. Particularly in your part of the

It isn't a fairy godmother. Particularly in your part of the
country a lot of people have been bailed out by the continued inflation
in home prices. Some people are "banking" on it. This is, again, another reason why these people freak out at even the thought of a little
    cooling in the economy.

    TB

Years ago, a pal bought a house near San Diego for about 250K... A couple years later, his business went belly up, and he began to barrow against it... Pretty soon his house had over 600K against it... He couldn't make the payments, so they
foreclosed, and booted him out onto the street... I suspect several homeowners will soon find themselves in the same position... They'll probably blame Biden for his mismanagement of the economy... HawHawHaw!

All you can do is make an attempt at personal insults with an undertone of racism. Believe me, I have had worse insults hurled at me by better people.
You sure are living up to the Mr Dodge moniker though. Maybe one day you
will give a straight answer. You should consider running for political
office. You sure have the non-answer thing down pat.

Why won’t you give us your secret? Don’t be a selfish liberal (sorry, I can’t help myself with the redundancy) and share your secret to saving millions on your electric bill before it’s too late. Maybe take out an ad
in the back of Popular Mechanics magazine. And if you won’t, how about
giving me a contact number for your power company so I can try this with my local utility.

than shuck and jive? It' pretty simple. Shuckin' and jivin' is all you >>>>> have the mental capacity for. You can't do anything else.

    TB

All you can do is make an attempt at personal insults with an
    undertone of
racism. Believe me, I have had worse insults hurled at me by better
    people.
You sure are living up to the Mr Dodge moniker though. Maybe one day you >>>> will give a straight answer. You should consider running for political >>>> office. You sure have the non-answer thing down pat.

Why won’t you give us your secret? Don’t be a selfish liberal (sorry, I
can’t help myself with the redundancy) and share your secret to saving >>>> millions on your electric bill  before it’s too late. Maybe take out >>>> an ad
in the back of Popular Mechanics magazine. And if you won’t, how about >>>> giving me a contact number for your power company so I can try this
    with my
    local utility.

OH MY! The shuckin' and jivin' just gets louder, and still no >>> answer to a simple on subject question. Big surprise. If you had a
real answer it would have taken much less effort than all this singing
and dancing around. Which never ends.

If the simple truth is an insult, that's only a problem for you. >>>

I made tried to make a deal with you but you don't want to accept it. No
help with saving millions then no answer to how I'm suffering. I'll give
you a hint though. I am suffering through your insufferable vacuous
    nattering.

LOL So now you're Monty Hall and this has become "Lets Make a
Deal", where every prize is a zonk? Traditionally, on Usenet and many
other chat groups, if someone has something to say--they say it.
Otherwise no one really expects anyone to give a flying fuck.

Listen, if you don’t want to share your money saving secret just say so.
You don’t need to insult and use foul language (the stock and trade of trapped liberals) to make your non point. By the way, is the $8.7 mil
behind door number one or two or three?
