• Jellicle Ball 2024 - First Calling of Names

From Milton Meezercat@21:1/5 to All on Sat Oct 19 00:30:32 2024
[A thin, meezerly tabby cat glances at the crowd and nods.

It is time. He climbs the dais, assisted by Callie Fluffytail, and
reaches the podium as the moon slips above the horizon to shine softly.

Guests and others who have lost loved ones, fall silent. He sets his
list down and looks straight to the guests as he reads it. At the side,
a dog repeats it in ASL-C/D. He is
    well lit by the moon.

Good evening, sirs and ma’am’s, and a special thank you to the
residents of this wonderful and ancient.

Welcome, all, to the twenty eigth annual Jellicle Ball!

Each October, at sundown of the evening of the Harvest Moon, we
gather to pay tribute to our dear ones who have taken their final
journey in the year just past.

With hearts full of sorrow and abiding love, we treasure the memories
of the time they shared and the memories which are forever ours.
Much richer for having known and loved, much better for the lessons
learned, we smile despite our grief.

As always, the first name called represents those whose names we did
not know, those lost or tossed, taken through illness or abuse or
    nature's fury.

We stand in silent thought, and send our hopes that they have found
    peace and love at last.

[There is a short pause, then guests rise their glowsticks like candles
in memory. Light of the moon shines over all.]

We call their names, family members, dear friends, respected
    strangers...our Jellicle Honorees:

    Unknown kitties, House of Bast
    Deleon, House of Bast
    Squeak, House of Baldwin

I din't know Sammy Redcat all that well, since I'z only been indoors for
less than a year. But as long as I've been a inside cat, Sammy was kind
and nice and never hissed at me. When he would get confused and start
meowing, I would come help him figure out where he wanted to go and
figure out how to get there. He was a very wise, very kind, very
    peaceful kitty man.

P2nya was always our leader, since I can recall. We will all miss her
but in time, we will be meeting again.

Jack steps forward as Luko picks up the ASL.
I shall always miss Samuel and Ranger, Such crazy kitties!
