Again weird from work anyway, using FF 97.0.2 (64-bit) High seirra
, blank page with nothing in the URL bar, only way to get it to open is with right click
    "open new private window"

    and of course C&P too.

I'm unclear what this has to do with Thunderbird!

If I hover my mouse pointer over Savageduck's link, way down in the
left-hand corner (next to the download symbol) I can see the anticipated
link showing along the bottom of the window.

As soon as I 'click' on Savageduck's link in the body of his post, the
    video opens in Safari
    (almost instantly).

No issues now that I'm using W/Dave's 'New Private Winndow' work around.

I can't get enough of little towns along the beautiful CA coast. Thanks Mr Duck!

I'd post some of the coastline we're about to travel to, but we're camping in a different state's National Parks and there you can only fly a drone if you apply for permission to the relevent Gov't Dep' t 10 days in advance together with Lat/Lon,
duration, purpose of flight, etc, etc. Sort of puts a very wet blanket on any spur-of-the-moment drone flying. PITA bureaucrats!

    Cheers,

Even further afield - New South Wales (Australia).
I live in Queensland where at least we can fly drones in Nat Pks if we comply with the CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) rules.

Yup! That is much further afield for me. A whole Pacific Ocean away.

I've no understanding of your answer!!!
I should have checked before. I thought that like other Apple Mac users you'd have been using Mozilla Thunderbird to read Usenet groups.
It is FAR superior to Google Groups which, incidentally, displays your IP address.

If I hover my mouse pointer over Savageduck's link, way down in the left-hand corner (next to the download symbol) I can see the anticipated link showing along the bottom of the window.

If I click on the link using Google Groups, a file is downloaded onto my iMac. Such file cannot be opened with any of my Applications. It says it is Zero Bytes!

Private windows don't store cookies or history so it must be something to do with
smugmug as it doesn't happen with other sites.

This is to do with Google - of that I'm fairly sure!

Thunderbird wine came in the classic 'blue' at 13.5% and 'red' at 17.5% then there was the extra special quality
which was a bit stonger think it was about 18.5%. Think they were pear or apple wines.
They were a cheap way of getting drunk quickly.

I should have checked before. I thought that like other Apple Mac users you'd have been using Mozilla Thunderbird to read Usenet groups.

Didn't know all Apple users thought the same.
I used MTnewswatcher in the past but it never seemed to get updated.
Most of the NG groups died out replaced with other social media sites.

It is FAR superior to Google Groups which, incidentally, displays your IP address.

    Doesn't worry me.

Mine too but only if I use right click to do that.
I get the hover info at the bottom but standard clicking on the link doesn;topen the link,
well I get a blank page.

Private windows don't store cookies or history so it must be something to do with
smugmug as it doesn't happen with other sites.
This is to do with Google - of that I'm fairly sure!

So not Apple then or maleware .
And as there are at least two options to open the link I don;t see any reason to change my default news reader.
I already have 2 other ways of communicating with students via QM+ or discord and I want to keep things seperated I don't want yet another option.
I use google docs for student orders, MS sharepoint for teaching labs, office356
for work emails. Facebook for friends (only).
