  • Micro SD card worth 25x the price of gold

From RichA@21:1/5 to All on Wed Nov 30 19:50:48 2022
$400 for a 1T card. It takes 7 tons of rock mined and processed to make $400 worth of gold. Does anyone think it costs anywhere near as much to make one of these uSD cards? Unless the failure rate is 100:1 when making them.

Better in the UK - here's a GBP 19 card:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/1024gb-Memory-Card-Speed-Class/dp/B0B7WXGPHT

Although SanDisk is nearer the Canadian price at GBP 209 (including taxes):

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Extreme-microSDXC-RescuePRO-Performance/dp/B09X7CFLDF

I can remember when 30 MB CF cards cost GBP 100.

There were times when memory shot up in price during shortages, e.g., $100/meg for computer memory in the late 1980s. But memory on the whole is cheap now.

Probably a fake card. The cheapest 1TB microSD card in Germany goes for
    129 Euro.

    Yes, of course.

Surprised no-one has reported it an Amazon hasn't withdrawn it!

Amazon is the same company that tolerates outrageous prices on items used by the Chinese for position in the listings.
Like asking $5300 for a USB extender card.

    A 1TB "SD" card? That's fantastic!

Except, how many cameras are compatible with such a device?

Not sure, perhaps any camera with an SD slot, released in the past 3-4
    years?
