National Geographic often has stunning pictures. I encountered it
on FB and it took me a while to find a link to a good quality version.

The sailor is wearing a safety belt - I'm sure you must have noticed, yes?

Any sensible person would would wear such a safety thing given the option, but then again you wouldn't get me up there even with one

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FIrBGdmXwAIF9V1?format=jpg&name=4096x4096It's a great image, but I am not sure I understand how the effects arise unless it has been photoshopped.
And once that is the case, maybe the "sun" has been added as well as the annular red region where the rigging has become washed out. Interesting
that the sun has been cut off by the mast at the right, and the sailor
is not quite central in the sun. That might suggest that it's not a composite. But I still think the rigging has been airbrushed out.
I just wish people would be honest about composite images, rather than implying that they have incredible skill in getting components
positioned exactly right, and also correct exposure over the whole frame.
And I don't have a problem with a bit of artistic license, like removing distractions such as power lines, or tweaking brightness, colour, or
contrast across the frame.

I took a similar photo and for sure not photoshopped except to lighten the shadows:

It's a great picture, but not strictly comparable because it doesn't
have the curious missing rigging.

It is a frame from a movie I made from the stills. The last frame shows the green flash at sunset.

It was taken from the shore through a spotting scope.
