Sunday, May 15. The Canadian Prairie provinces consist of Manitoba
    (VA4/VE4), Saskatchewan (VA5/VE5), and Alberta (VA6/VE6). Stations
outside of the three Canadian Prairie provinces work as many VE/VA 4,
5, and 6 stations in as many electoral districts as possible. Stations
inside the Canadian Prairie provinces work everyone. Complete rules are available at www.cpqp.ve6hams.ca/rules-2/
    <https://cpqp.ve6hams.ca/rules-2/>.

The Central States VHF Society is sponsoring the fifth and final Spring
Sprint this weekend, which will be focusing on 6 meters (50 MHz). The
Sprint begins at 2300 UTC Saturday, May 14, and runs through 0300 UTC
Sunday, May 15. Full rules are available at www.sites.google.com/site/springvhfupsprints/home/2021-information <http://www.sites.google.com/site/springvhfupsprints/home/2021-information>.

    BULLETINS

New Multioperator Category and Youth Overlay Added to IARU HF World Championship

A new Multioperator, Two Transmitter Category has been added to the
2022 IARU HF World Championship, which occurs during the second weekend
in July (July 9 - 10, 2022). The rules for the new category mirror
those of the 2022 World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) event,
which was postponed this year and rescheduled for 2023.

The new category was added to provide a real-world practice event for
those teams competing in the WRTC event. Complete rules are available
    at www.arrl.org/iaru-hf-world-championship <http://www.arrl.org/iaru-hf-world-championship>.

In addition, a Youth overlay has been added to the Single Operator
categories in the event for those participants who are aged 25 and
    younger.

If you find any errors in the files, please let Stu know by sending an
email to logs@supercheckpartial.com. The next release of the database
will be in early June. Any requested changes to call signs that are
received by noon PST on June 1, 2022 will be included in the next

Special Canadian Call Signs to Honor Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Canada's amateur radio regulatory agency has granted hams in Canada the
right to use special call signs in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's
Platinum Jubilee, from May 14 to July 14, 2022. Some Canadian radio
amateurs will be using the prefixes XK, XJ, VG, and VX in place of the
prefix normally assigned to their province or territory.

These special prefixes may be encountered on the air during the June
VHF Contest, ARRL Field Day, RAC Canada Day Contest, and the IARU World
    HF Championship.

For more information, visit the Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) website <https://www.rac.ca/special-call-signs-available-in-honour-of-the-queens-platinum-jubilee/>.

    WORD TO THE WISE

    Prefill

Prefill refers to the features of some contest logging software
packages which automatically fill in exchange information based upon information obtained either before or during the contest. For example,
if you work W1AW in ARRL November Sweepstakes, the software might enter
"CT" in the ARRL Section field for either based upon previous contests,
or based upon working W1AW on a different band in the current contest.
If the prefill information is different from what the station actually
changes, it is up to the operator to manually correct it.

    SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

Kelli Trapani K6KEL, participated in ARRL Rookie Roundup along with her
father, Sal, K6SAL, acting as coach. She said that one of the
highlights was contacting a pilot in flight over Colorado. [Sal

    RESULTS AND RECORDS

2021 Oceania DX Contest Results Now Available

The Oceania DX (OCDX) Contest Committee is pleased to announce that the
final results for the 2021 OCDX contest are now available at www.oceaniadxcontest.com <http://www.oceaniadxcontest.com/>.

The organizers would like to congratulate all the winners and thank
everyone who participated in the 76th running of the contest. We had a fantastic turnout, despite the relatively poor ionospheric conditions
and COVID-19 restrictions that limited DXpedition activity. A total of
1,908 logs were submitted, consisting of 1,178 phone logs and 730 CW
logs. This is an increase from the previous record of 1,603 logs
received in 2020, and sets a new benchmark for the OCDX contest.

The 2022 OCDX contest will be held over the first two full weekends of
    October.

ARRL Rookie Roundup - SSB Results Released

The 2022 Rookie Roundup - SSB results have been released and are
    available at contests.arrl.org <http://contests.arrl.org/>.
Thirty-seven Single Operator entries and four Multioperator entries
    were received for the event.

Complete scores, soapbox comments, and photos are available at the
website. Downloadable certificates are available by clicking on the "Certificates" tab at the top of the page.

    Winter NAQP Certificates Available

Certificates for the winter 2022 North American QSO Party events are
now available for download from the National Contest Journal (NCJ)
website at www.ncjweb.com <https://ncjweb.com/>. Full results will be
released in the May issue of NCJ.

    TECHNICAL TOPICS AND DISCUSSION

Last November, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) issued its first purchase contracts for radio occultation (RO)
data from GeoOptics and Spire Global. RO measures the Doppler shift of
a received signal (usually from GNSS sources like GPS satellites) due
to bending in a planet's atmosphere, and uses it to produce
high-quality temperature, pressure, and moisture data. RO was used by
Mariner to measure the existence of an atmosphere on Mars. NOAA wants
GeoOptics and Spire Global to generate 20,000 measurements per day, and
seems to be particularly interested in using this data for hurricane forecasting. A previous RO mission, COSMIC, was able to improve typhoon
    path prediction by 24%.
