FWIW: Sunspots jumped from 129 to 173, the highest in this cycle, overnight.

For anyone "on the fence" about upgrading from Technician to General...the Sunspot level is the highest so far in the new Cycle #25. These levels will support not only FT8, but CW & SSB worldwide on all bands up to and
including 10 meters. The 30-day Sunspot rolling average is 87. Solar Flux
is equally trending much higher than ever in this cycle at a level of 162
with a 30-day rolling average of 136. Go get em!

    10 meter band local

I heard in my area they are starting a 10 meter net. Id like to try that.
But I have tested my signal with some websdrs near me and have never heard anything. How would I talk to people locally on 10 meters? A different
antenna? Right now Ive got a simple dipole. submitted by

    Stretch Limo Mobile?

    Posted: 17 May 2022 03:47 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uryk4h/stretch_limo_mobile/

People often use Suburbans as their platform for extreme mobile builds... I
get it, its a lot of roof space and volume inside to fill with equipment. Someone in my neighborhood is selling a stretch Lincoln Continental. Its
got to be twice the roof space of a suburban... And 10 sitting positions?
    Sign me up!
What would you do with such a thing? Any antenna options that spring to
mind given the unique attributes of the platform? Get creative! submitted

    Radio sticks during digi tx

    Posted: 17 May 2022 06:00 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/us12so/radio_sticks_during_digi_tx/

    Using a Pactor 4 modem/soundcard, at around 50-55W, Yaesu 991A will
continue to tx on (pactor) Winlink. Instead of cycling between requests and
no tx, the radio continues to tx until I shut off the tuner or radio. Even occurs when dont use tuner. RF in the shack perhaps, but no other
electronics are effected. Using vertical, matched will with coax, radio.
Does not occur when under 50w. SSB no problem at any power level.

Effect of parallel EFHW antenna wires?

    Posted: 17 May 2022 09:01 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/urpp06/effect_of_parallel_efhw_antenna_wires/

I have a horizontal EFHW antenna thats a half wavelength at 40m. It also resonates nicely at 20m, but the radiation pattern is different, so Id like
to try a shorter EFHW thats specifically for 20m operation. Whatll happen
if I put the second EFHW wire right next to the original one, parallel to
it? I dont have a lot of options for feedpoint location and theres only one tree to support the far end of the wire.
Edit: Imagine a 66 ft long horizontal wire, about 30 ft off the ground, but disconnected. The driven element is a 33 ft wire that parallels the longer
wire for the first half of its length. submitted by /u/blinkybit

Possible to copy high speed morse without ever sending?

    Posted: 17 May 2022 03:34 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/urjhgq/possible_to_copy_high_speed_morse_without_ever/

For reasons that would take too long to explain, I am currently
incapacitated at setting up a proper residential rig for CW (and the
weather in UK definitely discourages portable operation). Ive just finished
all lessons at LCWO at 20/15 wpm and I am nowhere near copying real-life
QSOs on air (currently using online resources such as WebSDR and KiwiSDR).
I know that sending morse reinforces learning, just like you cant learn a
human language if you also dont practice conversation).
My question is: should I stick to my learning routine (LCWO, qrq, morse-classic, etc)? Or should I pause it and come back to it when I can
setup a proper rig? submitted by /u/oct111

    Remote Shack - 2M/220/440

    Posted: 17 May 2022 06:37 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/urmnn2/remote_shack_2m220440/

    Hi everyone.
I have a house at the beach that Id like to setup a radio at and control it from, well, the internet.
Did some research on this subreddit and found a few older threads that
focused mainly on HF. And the first thing that came to mind was FlexRadio
    and Elecraft.
But, at least with the case of Flex Radio (which is a super cool thing
right up my alley if I wanted HF) is that Id have to spend an epic amount
of coin to get part of what I want.
I also found https://www.remotehamradio.com/ which looks ultra cool. But at
the moment, I dont want to control other peoples gear. Just mine.
I dont have a particular allegiance to any brand of radio. In my happy
little mind, being able to work the digital modes remotely would be a plus
if possible. The primary digital mode in the area is DMR.
I did find RemoteTX and it looks like that might work. Considering I do
have a Rasberry Pi available to use.
Due to HOA issues, Ill have to mount an antenna in the attic. Which is
    fine, plenty of room there.
Internet access to the house is fiber, 300x300 and I do have an IPSEC
    tunnel established.
Any thoughts? Anyone doing something like this? submitted by /u/caller-number-four

    A little help

    Posted: 17 May 2022 05:47 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/urlone/a_little_help/

Hi everyone, Im new in this world and I need for some suggestions.
On some sundays, me and some friends go for a quite a long drive by car and
we use radios for communicating, even because the phone line doesnt always work.
I have a Baofeng UV 5R, it belong to my father that used enough years ago.
Now I use it, but doesnt work quite well, when I receive the audio is
always disturbed (others with even more distance from the source receive perfectly), and when I transmit others doesnt hear me, or hear very
    disturbed sounds.
In my opinion the problem is the antenna, but the Nagoya cost more than the radio itself, and the Signal Stick is too tall for being comfortable in the car.
Im thinking about buying an external antenna and a CB to connect directly
to the car battery, in order to have a good range and no battery problem. Someone has a better alternative? submitted by /u/OGLog02
