Quiet 5V DC USB power supply

    Posted: 22 Jun 2022 10:58 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vipts1/quiet_5v_dc_usb_power_supply/

I am an SW listener and quite a lot of recent radios use 5V USB sockets for power supply to charge inbuilt 18650 batteries. If I use an external power
bank these radios are all quiet, even if they charge these inbuilt
    batteries.

I tried a couple of switching power supplies, either from my mobile phone
or general chargers with voltage selector. They are all awful noisy.

Can anyone recommend a super-quiet 5V DC power supply? Preferably switching (for weight, efficiency and form factor) but an old-fashioned linear one
would do as well. submitted by /u/JohnDoe365

    TYT 8000D repair update

I was able to replace the antenna connector and I had to re-solder the
speaker wires why would my power be less than 1 W on transmitting on 2
meters but around 10 watts or less on 70 cm? submitted by /u/Routine_Watercress76

Curious about the T41 EP SDT Software Defined HF Transceiver

    Posted: 23 Jun 2022 12:39 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/virc8m/curious_about_the_t41_ep_sdt_software_defined_hf/

    Hi, Im a new ham.
I was looking at low budget HF transceivers as I want to get into 40m and
as I was looking around I came across a very interesting project, the T41
    EP SDT.
It is a 20W HF Transceiver that seems to be capable of 40m as well as a
    couple of other bands.
There are a few videos on Youtube by the main people on the project, AI
    Peter, AC8GY and Jack Purdum, W8TEE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjUYg7RFNbk
The whole software and hardware design of the transceiver is completely
open source so anyone can build it if they want to, I like that aspect as
that means there will be good community support.
They state that affordability is one of their goals so the sum of component costs comes to around $250 maximum.
They even have a book on Amazon which has in-depth explanations on a lot of things including not just the hardware design but also things like the
Digital Signal Processing in their code and all that so that someone
reading it would gain enough knowledge to start to be able to mess around
    with it.
There is relatively little information on the project apart that I could I
find apart from what the creators themselves have already published.
I have seen the radio being mentioned on this sub as well as a few other
ham subs a couple of times so I was wondering what experiences you guys
    have had with it.
    Regards.
    P.S
If anyone knows of decent HF transceivers with similar specs (including the waterfall display) in a similar price range I am very eager to hear about
    them. submitted by /u/Sprinkly-Dust

    Pota and WAS...

    Posted: 22 Jun 2022 05:37 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vijzr4/pota_and_was/

OK, so I understand that I need to be operating within 50 miles of my main
QTH when making contacts toward WAS.
But, Delaware is a pretty short day trip for me. If I were to activate a
POTA site in Delaware, as a Pennsylvania resident, could people contacting
me count that as a Delaware contact toward their WAS, even though I cant
count it toward mine. It would be like a "mini-dxpedition" for me.
I ask because it seems like Delaware is a tough state to get for people
working toward a WAS award, so it seems likely that I would get a lot of contacts...
    Thanks! submitted by /u/VisualEyez33

Found a strip of land in my neighborhood that I could use for a radio shack
and towers. No idea how to make a deal to gain access to it for radio use.

    Posted: 22 Jun 2022 08:33 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vind54/found_a_strip_of_land_in_my_neighborhood_that_i/

So I am walking down the street towards the house until I saw an old beat
up MG car for sale for 4k on someones property. I stood there for a few
minutes and said "Screw it! Might as well!"
Well to find out from the neighbor of the property, she mentioned that he
wants to sell the land too. After talking to her, the guy sounds like a
piece of work but I am interested in learning more about the property for
radio use. So i gave her my number and email for her husband to talk to him about me about the car. Possibility the land too.
Now I dont have any funds to buy it outright and dont have the income to
make it happen. However, I have been going to a local mission here in town
(and I believe with the right approach) I could have them make a deal with
the car and the land as a donation. Both for the owner and the mission.
So how would someone go about doing this for access to empty strip of land
to set up a shack for radio use? And how would someone set it up to gain
access to funding to get it? Has anyone else have similar experiences in
such situations before? submitted by /u/chaseNscores
