I love the sound of ft8 in the morning. Sounds like... Victory.

Been running ft8 and some SSB since 1am. Tired and a bit loopy.
Trying to take a nap before the sunrise and I can still hear the ft8...

Samsung oven turns on when transmitting

    Posted: 25 Jun 2022 08:57 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vkvzlv/samsung_oven_turns_on_when_transmitting/

I installed an EFHW on the roof, about 40ft in the air. The coax runs along
the roof (above the kitchen) and then into my radio room. When transmitting
on the 40m band, the oven will randomly turn on. It can do anything from preheat to 350, turn on broil, or even run a cleaning cycle. Any ideas on
how best to resolve this issue? Right now, I have it unplugged when I am playing radio. submitted by /u/meglea2019

What frequency should I be using in NA to contact the ISS?

Slightly confused here. I thought it was 145.800/144.490, but I was hearing
the ISS on 437.800??? What freqs should I be using. I know, seems so simple until you are confused.

    Licensing Quick Start

    Posted: 26 Jun 2022 07:59 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vl6k0d/licensing_quick_start/

I have accumulated the questions people ask about the FCC website -
commonly they just ask where do I go to start?
The FCC website can be confusing - so I whipped together a Google Sites quickstart for common licensing tasks ...
    I would appreciate any feedback

Preparing my first setup: Is it OK to run the antenna cable under ground
    for 8 meter?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2022 12:32 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vkz97u/preparing_my_first_setup_is_it_ok_to_run_the/

I need to set up the antenna away from the house, so I wonder if it is
possible to bury it instead of hanging in the air where I have been told it will not be welcomed. And if I do bury it, is it best to run it inside some pipe so it can be easily pulled out and changed? submitted by /u/nozendk

Voyeur on 20m with 40 End Fed

    Posted: 25 Jun 2022 11:33 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vklae0/voyeur_on_20m_with_40_end_fed/

I had posted earlier about some concerns I had about antenna installation… This is more of morale boost for others and validation of what some of you
    guys told me -
My friend came through with an EFHW 8010 and an “EARCI 6-40” as well as an Alex Loop (which he said was not worth trying in suburbia)
So while I wait for my grounding stuff to arrive, I figured - it’s field
day, I can see what I can hear. Threw up the EARCI antenna. It’s about 40’ of wire I think, and I’ve got it horizontal about 20ft in the air and attached it to an SDR Play RSP2. It’s not ideal, but I was able to throw it up quickly.
Happy to say I am hearing people from Florida, Illinois, Maryland and many other places (here in North NJ) on 20m and 40m very clearly. Also picking
    up.
I’m confident now that the EFHW 8010 will be more than adequate to get me started. Transmission is not the same as receiving - but I figured at the height I could get and location I’m in - I’d be buried in noise if I heard anything at all.
Thank you all for the antenna kick in the butt I needed. submitted by /u/nonproductive

Beginner Question on Aviation Radio Capability for Non-Ham

    Posted: 25 Jun 2022 07:03 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vku14f/beginner_question_on_aviation_radio_capability/

Bit of confusing title. My job requires me to fly an airplane around 300nm
for clients. Im typically around 9-14k cruise. Ive started reading AARL to
get my ham license, but the biggest reason that drew me too it is having
the capability of communicating with home and office through radio while in flight. The downside is asking all those who I need to speak to while in
air to obtain a ham license is likely a no-go, so it looks like taking the
ham route with a capable radio is likely out. Given my altitude, is there
any non-Ham license alternatives that could work at such a distance and
those altitudes? If not 300nm, lets say 150nm?
Looking forward to this sub as I pursue my license. Thanks! submitted

    Inverted vee

    Posted: 25 Jun 2022 05:59 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vkswwr/inverted_vee/

I just put up a inverted vee up 25 feet and I added a choke at feed point
to keep rf from coming to shack .its OFC antenna. The ends of antenna are
up off the ground at 6 feet. It receives excellent but when I transmit I
get no one to answer. I dont know if they can hear me. You think that choke
is causing this . submitted by /u/According-Street-892

Field day exchange for 1B Battery on CW?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2022 06:33 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vkf6qz/field_day_exchange_for_1b_battery_on_cw/

I’m trying to plan my exchange but I’ve never done CW before. I’m 1B-Battery—but surely we don’t spell that out? Do I say I’m “N2WIV 1BB EMA”? Or 1B BATT? Or what? submitted by /u/bts
