THE SARL HF CW CONTEST THIS AFTERNOON

The third and final August contest is the SARL HF CW contest which will be
on the air from 14:00 to 17:00 UTC this afternoon. CW activity is spread
over three periods - as was done with the HF Phone and HF Digital contest
s. Remember that you can participate as a single operator single radio - s ingle band station, a single operator single radio - all band station,
a multi operator - single band station or a multi operator - all band sta tion. The exchange is a RST report and a consecutive serial number startin
g at 001. Submit your log by 21:59 UTC on Friday 2 September 2022 by e-mai

THE 2023 SARL CONTEST MANUAL

The Contest Working Group is working through the steps to create the 2023
Contest Manual or Blue Book. The Working Group invites the Clubs and Grou
ps hosting the contests, as well as SARL Members, to work through the
2022 SARL Contest Manual and propose a) possible changes to the current G eneral Rules and Contests and b) new contests. The proposals must be submi

MAKE SATELLITES YOUR NEXT AMATEUR RADIO EXPERIENCE

The AMSAT SA Space Symposium will take you into an exciting part of being
a radio amateur. Learn how to operate on satellites, how to get a stati
on set up from entry level to operating on a geostationary satellite. The
annual conference is presented as a hybrid event with an in-person sympos
ium being held at the Premier Hotel in Midrand and a virtual symposium bei
ng presented on the BlueJeans platform.

Experienced satellite radio amateur, Hennie Rheeder, ZS6ALN will prese
nt a paper entitled "Amateur Radio Satellite Communication for Starters an
d Restarters," the essentials in how to communicate via amateur
radio satellites in a mind mapped way. If you own a dual band hand-held r adio, you are 99% of the way to become active on satellites. Let Hennie
show you the important 1%. Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP will talk about OSCAR
100 - the easy way. For starters, he looks at how low cost, off-the-sh
elf DSTV components can be used to monitor the QO-100 activity. Some propo
sals for a complete, narrowband Oscar-100 station are also included in h
is presentation.

HAMMIES RAE CLASS-B NOVICE COURSE.

The Hammies Amateur Radio Club, ZS6ZU cordially invites all interested y oungsters to an introductory Class-B entry level Amateur Radio course to b
e run over 6 Saturdays. The course will start on Saturday 3 September from
09:00 to 12:00 CAT at the National Amateur Radio Centre at Sentech Radiok
op. The course is suitable for youngsters aged ten years to fifteen years.
Candidates will learn all about electrical safety, basic electronics
, regulations and operating procedures. They will also have fun operatin

THE SARL FIELD DAY ON THE FIRST WEEKEND IN SEPTEMBER

The second leg of the SARL Field Day is on the air from 08:00 UTC on Satur
day 3 September to 10:00 UTC on Sunday 4 September 2022. You can participa
te as Class A - Field Station, Multi operator; Class B - Field Station
, Multi operator, QRP; Class C - Field Station, Single Operator; Cla
ss D - Field Station, Single Operator, QRP; Class E - Ultra Light Port
able; Class F - Backyard Stations or Class G - General Stations. The excha
nge is the number of transmitters, the Field Day operating class and the
Provincial abbreviation - e.g., 9BFS. Nothing else! Start your planning
and turn to page 64 of the Blue Book for all the information. Stations su bmitting a suitable article for Radio ZS with their logs will get bonus po ints.

On this same weekend, the IARU Region 1 SSB Field Day and the RSGB SSB F
ield Day will also be on the air. The two events run from 13:00 UTC on Sat urday 3 September to 13:00 UTC on Sunday 4 September. V55V will be active
from Namibia for the Region 1 Field Day.

The Sandton ARC will be out in force at the Sleepy River Caravan Park in M agaliesberg for the SARL Field day weekend on 3 and 4 September operating
as ZS6STN/p. All amateurs are invited to fire up their radios and enjoy a
QSO or two with the ZS6STN club station.

ARE YOU READY FOR JOTA/JOTI 2022?

JOTA/JOTI is the world's largest digital and radio Scout event pro
moting friendship and global citizenship that takes place every year in Oc tober. It is a great opportunity for Scouts and Scout Groups to take part
in an International Jamboree. JOTA stands for Jamboree on the Air and inv olves radio communications via Amateur Radio, while JOTI is Jamboree on
the Internet and involves internet-based communications, with easy acce
ss on any connected device. JOTA/JOTI is organised by the World Organizati
on of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

JOTA/JOTI 2022 is taking place from Friday 14 October to Sunday 16 October
2022. On Saturday 15 October, the Voortrekkers will be running their CQ
Hou Koers event. Please contact your local Scout Group or Voortrekker Com mando and start planning for this event.

Here are the provisional results of the SARL HF Digital contest. Eight log
s were received for the SARL HF Digital contest held on Sunday 14 August.

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low to moderate levels. There are currently 7 sunspots with simple
to complex magnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability f
or C-class and a low probability for M-class flaring. If you want to do yo
ur own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for
the week will be around 51. The 15 to 30 m bands may provide some good DX

MAAK SATELLIETE JOU VOLGENDE AMATEUR RADIO ERVARING
Die AMSAT SA Ruimte simposium sal jou bekend stel aan Å(tm) opwindende de
el van amateur radio. Leer hoe om op satelliete te werk, hoe om 'n stasi
e op te stel vanaf intreevlak tot op 'n geostasionêre satelliet. Die

Die tweede been van die SARL Velddag is op die lug vanaf 08:00 UTC op Sate
rdag 3 September tot 10:00 UTC op Sondag 4 September 2022. Jy kan deelneem
as Klas A - Veldstasie, Multi-operateur; Klas B - Veldstasie, Multi-o perateur, QRP; Klas C - Veldstasie, Enkel operateur; Klas D - Veldstas
ie, Enkel operateur, QRP; Klas E - Ultra Lig Draagbaar; Klas F â-
" Agterplaas-stasies of Klas G - Algemene Stasies. Die uitruiling is die
aantal senders, die Velddag-bedryfsklas en die provinsiale afkorting -
bv. 9BFS. Niks anders nie! Begin jou beplanning en blaai na bladsy 64 van
die Blou Boek vir al die inligting. Stasies wat 'n geskikte artikel vir R

Op dieselfde naweek sal die IARU Streek 1 ESB Velddag en die RSGB ESB Veld

JOTA/JOTI is die wêreld se grootste digitale en radio Verkenner gelee
ntheid wat vriendskap en wêreldburgerskap bevorder wat elke jaar in O
ktober plaasvind. Dit is 'n wonderlike geleentheid vir Verkenners en Verke nner-groepe om aan 'n Internasionale Jamboree deel te neem. JOTA staan vir
Jamboree op die Lug en is radio kommunikasie via amateur radio, terwyl
JOTI Jamboree op die Internet is en internetgebaseerde kommunikasie is,
met maklike toegang op enige gekoppelde toestel. JOTA/JOTI word deur die
Wêreld Organisasie of the Padvinder Beweging (WOSM) georganiseer.

JOTA/JOTI 2022 vind plaas vanaf Vrydag 14 Oktober tot Sondag 16 Oktober 20
22. Op Saterdag 15 Oktober hou die Voortrekkers hul CQ Hou Koers-geleenthe

o en begin beplan vir hierdie geleentheid.

HF VOORTPLANTINGSVOORSPELLING
Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, berig dat die verwagte sonaktiwiteitsvlak laag
tot gematig gaan wees. Tans is daar 7 sonvlekke met eenvoudige tot gevord
erde magnetiese samestellings sigbaar. Daar is 'n hoë waarskynlikheid
vir die voorkoms van C-klas fakkels en 'n lae moontlikheid van M-klas son fakkels. Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspellings wil doen, kan 'n
verwagte effektiewe sonvlektelling van 51 vir die week gebruik. Radio ama teurs kan veral laatmiddag goeie DX openinge op die 15 tot 30 m bande verw
