Well, just for those people in the future that encounter this problem
with the ICOM 706-MKii powering up and are searching for an answer I
will post my solution. It appears that this problem was caused by a
small piece of dirt. I removed the detachable face plate, undid the 2
screws in the back of the detachable face plate. Remeved the back and
blew the dust out of it, paying special attention to the corner with
the power switch. upon a reassembly the rig powered up just fine.
Watch for the springloaded latch i fyou turn the face plate over as
you might wonder where the spring magically came from.
Who would have thought that a small piece of dust would have caused me
such greif.

My problem is that I have an Icom 706 MK-II, that won't power up.
When I push the power button I can hear a relay click in the radio,
and a thump in the speaker but that is it. I've checked the fuses
internal and external all are ok. I've tried this with and with out
the remote cable. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix short
of shipping off to ICOM?
Thanks in advance and 73's
Dwayne
