    News from the IRTS

The next IRTS Committee meeting will take place on Thursday, July 11th
at 8:00 p.m. on the Zoom platform. All IRTS affiliated clubs are
reminded that under Rule 16.1, the members in each affiliated club,
society, or other body may elect a representative and an alternate
annually to attend IRTS Committee meetings. Clubs wishing to send a
representative should notify the IRTS Secretary, Owen EI4GGB at
irts_secretary /at/ irts.ie in advance to ensure notification and links
    are provided.

The IRTS news team will be taking its annual summer holidays from
Sunday, July 14th until Sunday, August 4th. This means that the last
IRTS HF bulletin before the break will be the 80m bulletin at 12 p.m.
on Sunday, July 14th and the next bulletin will be the 40m bulletin on
Sunday, August 4th at 11 a.m. For events that may be taking place
during the holiday period, people are advised to send them to the news
editor as soon as possible so they can be included in upcoming IRTS
news bulletins before the summer break. The IRTS wish to thank all of
our newsreaders both HF and local weekly readers for your continued
great service to the society. We hope you all enjoy your summer break!

National Short Wave Listeners Club AGM

The National Short Wave Listeners Club held their Annual General
Meeting on June 23rd where there was a planned major change in
leadership in line with their constitution. Their tutors and mentors
are now having a well-earned break after the conclusion of Class Golf
and the 100% success rate of their students in the HAREC examination
held on May 11th. However, the show goes on and the training continues
in the more informal setting of their Sunday Socials on the Zoom
platform. Here, talks and presentations are delivered on topics of
interest to both new and more seasoned hams. Members can raise any
questions they have on any aspect of the hobby and most of the answers
are available from their wide-ranging membership. If not, they find an
expert! A review of the past year by outgoing chairman Rafal EI6LA
showed that they currently have 137 members, all of them being members
    of the IRTS.

The publication of the IRTS Study Guide just before the IRTS AGM last
April was a major achievement, thanks in particular to the Editor,
Rafal EI6LA. They are very grateful to the many people who were
involved in its preparation in many different capacities. It sold out
very quickly and another batch will be with the IRTS Book Sales Manager
    Pat EI2HX very soon.

Events during the past year included a field day in Tuam, Co. Galway, a
visit to Co. Laois for a radio direction finding event which was hosted
by the Collective Communication Club EI3CC, a visit to the AirNav
facilities in Co. Clare, and their annual dinner in Ennis.

The following officers were elected for the coming year: Chairman Pat
    MacGrath EI2JQB, Secretary Damien McShane EI7LF, Treasurer/Membership
Officer Paraic Nolan EI9IRB, Asset Manager Mike Griffin EI2LF, and IRTS
    Representative Pat MacGrath EI2JQB.

Full details on how to sign up for the next course are on SWL.ie

    Satellite News

AMSAT EA announce that the maiden flight of the new European launcher,
Ariane 6, is scheduled for July 9, 2024. The launch window is 3:00 p.m.
to 7:00 p.m. local time from the European spaceport in French Guiana.
Among other payloads, it carries a GENESIS-A amateur radio module
attached to the second stage of the launcher. This module will transmit
FT8 and live SSTV images in Robot 36 format. FT8 transmissions will be
made every 16 seconds and SSTV images will be transmitted every five
minutes. FT8 mode will operate on 144.175 MHz and 144.550 MHz will be
used for SSTV operation. The Ariane 6 ground track passes to the north
of Ireland but it will be an especially challenging feat to receive
signals. Two-line element set information is not available for the
second stage launcher containing the equipment and the module itself
will fall into the sea after a few hours. This means that the window to
put your satellite operation skills to the test may be as short as two
    hours.
