Spain are the one team who have the quality and have consistently
    applied it this tournament.

England and France both have the quality but seem to be on a mission to
win the tournament without actually having to apply any of it.

Netherlands are a step or so behind the others quality wise but have
been very inconsistent, one match playing above their level, the next
    playing below it.

If there’s any justice in the World Spain ought to win, which knowing
how football often turns out means probably one of he other three will
    win the tournament.

Most unsurprising semis possible. These are the 4 teams you'd have most expected to make it this far. (Possibly Germany instead of Holland,
    only because they were hosts.)

From what we've seen so far, Spain look indeed slight favorites,
followed closely by England (not so much based on what they've shown
here but we know they're strong so they might want to start actually
showing it). But of course the other 2 teams are far from written off.

If all the teams I kind of expected to win their groups had done so, I
would have expected the semi-finals to be

    Germany or Spain vs. Portugal

    France vs. England or Italy

Still, you've got 3 out of 4. And Holland instead of Portugal (or maybe Croatia, come think of it I expected a little bit more from them at the
start of the tournament, of course) is not really a surprise.

Nowadays it's not a good idea to expect anything from Italy. :)

As for Portugal, I tend not to expect very much from them, especially
now that their superstar has aged. But you're right that they were
favorites to win theor group, which they did, and then very unlucky to
have to face France. That's it, things happen. Still, over all very unsurprising semis.
