    Conference League playoff:
    Haka - SJK 1-2
    SJK - Haka 2-2

    Bwahaha.

This was infuriating to follow. Haka went to 3 rounds. First round,
Inter (single match). Wins by a goal in the 114th minutes. Second round, Gnistan (single match). Is down 1-2, but scores 89th minute. Falls
behind in extra time as well, but gets a goal in the 115th minute to go
to penalties. Haka misses their 4th kick, but then Gnistan misses their
    final two kicks.

And in this match SJK lead 2-0, before Haka comes back 90+1 and 90+4. Fortunately it wasn't enough.

No mention of the Panthers in Tampere ?

Surely that would have been a better way to spend an afternoon ? { wink

We have a feud in this newsgroup against Haka. Watching crash out of a
    playoff is always worth it.

Must have missed this. What did Haka ever do to you?

Haka? Don't tell me we're doing Rugby here as well?!

In the real world, they faced Juve in the 1983-84 CWC quarterfinal, and
gave us a harder time than expected (1-0 Juve wins in both legs).

But our thing against Haka has to do with the Staff Game. First they did
not appreciate our management skills, and then since we took over Jaro
they regularly maim our players. Dirty bastards.

Daniele already told you that it is related to "The Staff", I
game I run on the newsgroup that has hopefully just come back
to life. You should play! There's some folklore.

If somebody explains the games here to me before they start, I
would think about joining them. I often don't know what they're
    about so I ignore them.

The nice (?) thing is that the game is explained at the end of each
post. See the "About the game" section: https://www.novabbs.com/sport/article-flat.php?id=21269&group=rec.sport.soccer#21269

    But let me simplify it:
    - The newgroup as a unit is managing a club (currently Jaro) in an
ancient football managing videogame (Sensible World of Soccer). Think Football Manager, but order of magnitudes simpler.
    - How can different users play as a unit? Here is how: at each round, I
post a list of seven or so options (different XIs, or different actions
on the transfer market). Everyone votes for one of these options. After
23 or more hours, I randomly pick one of these votes, and that is the newsgroup's choice.

Some additional useful info on strategy:

    - Most of the Jaro players are completely useless, with the exception of
Vesa Tauriainen, aka "Da Bull", who, in the context of the 1990s Finnish league, is a combination of Ronaldo (both of them), Messi and Maradona. Whatever you do, you should always try to have Da Bull in the lineup.

    - After experimenting with various formations, we have come to the
conclusion that 3-4-3 is a lot better than all the others, regardless of
    the opponent.

    - Summing up: it's the newsgroup vs. the world. And all you do is
picking one of the options at each round.

    - To be precise: it's the newsgroup versus the Evil Gamemaster and the
world. Even if sometimes it may seem that the EGM is helping you, just
the design of this evil game (Ben the Basic? seriously?) reveals the
    true evilness of his intentions.
