• Women's Club World Cup and FIFA Women's Champions Cup

From Mark@21:1/5 to All on Sat Mar 15 15:41:58 2025
The Women's Club World Cup has been postponed from 2026 to 2028 and,
before it's ever been played, has already been expanded from 16 teams
    to 19 (?)

The slot allocation for the inaugural edition will be as follows:

AFC, CAF, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL: two direct slots and one play-in
    slot each
UEFA: five direct slots and one play-in slot
    OFC: one play-in slot

So the usual bias towards Europe with no UEFA co-efficient type system
    to justify it.

They've also invented a FIFA Women's Champions Cup, similar to the
men's FIFA Intercontinental Cup. And it sounds about as pointless as
    the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Round 1: The champions of the AFC Women's Champions League play at
home against the champions of the OFC Women's Champions League.
Round 2: The winner from Round 1 plays away against the champions
of the CAF Women's Champions League.
Semi-finals: The Round 2 winner advances to play the champions of
the UEFA Women's Champions League, while the champions of the CONCACAF
W Champions Cup face the champions of the Copa Libertadores Femenina.
Final and third-place match: The semi-final winners contest the
final, and the losers play in the third-place match.

Why does the Oceanian team have to play 3 matches to reach the final,
while teams from other continents only have to play 1?! And why do the
African and Asian teams have home advantage?

Why not something sensible like 2 groups of 3 teams and the group
winners play each other in the final?

    It's ridiculous!

Are these tournaments just about money?

    There's no flies on you!

    Of course they are.
