• Lyon v Bayern Munchen Women's champions league QF 2nd leg (R)

From Mark@21:1/5 to All on Thu Mar 27 21:18:49 2025
Lyon had won the 1st leg, away, 2-0.

Bayern Munchen looked the better team in the 1st half of the 2nd leg,
and led 1-0 at half-time. I don't know what changed at half-time, but
Lyon came back and won 4-1; 6-1 on aggregate. The only thing I can
think of that might explain what changed was maybe Lyon were defending
the aggregate lead in the 1st half but decided that approach didn't
seem to be working and played more attackively in the 2nd half.

Bayern Munchen are likely to win the German Championship for the 3rd consecutive season and win the Cup too. This seems to be a good team.
What do they need to do to be contenders for the Champions League?

Is the Frauen Bundesliga falling behind maybe? German teams generally
haven't been doing so well in the champions league in recent years.

Bayern and Wolfsburg are still teams that you would expect to make the Champions League QFs every time. A bit surprising that they were soundly
beat this year by powerhouses Lyon and Barcelona. English teams' massive spending has finally yielded results this year, with 3 out of 4 quarterfinalists, and Arsenal and Chelsea in the semis. Let's see if
they can avoid a repeat of a Lyon-Barca final.

Who is definitely falling behind is Serie A...it seemed that they were
about to close the gap with the very elite a couple of years ago, but
then the elite pulled away even more decisively.
