Ok, my new local team is the Montreal Canadiens. So, now to put this in Football parlance, if the Stanley Cup is the Euro Cup or Championsliga equivalent, Montreal is Real Madrid. Well, except that they have not
won it in something like 35 years. Iam Ok with the Stanely Cup - Euro
cup analogy, but maybe not so much the Madrid - Montreal analogy.

One thing that my new favourite local ice hockey team does not do, like
Ottawa and Toronto, is have a boring monotonous chant consisting of
GO (insert short nickname of team) GO. So for Ottawa the fans would be chanting "GO SENS GO" or the eloquent Torontonians would have an equally original and fantastic chant that would be "GO LEAFS GO!". It is so
hard to say which chant is the better one, they are both so deep and
profound. My curren t faourite team, sings a nice French ditty and
would never stoop so low as to chant some monkey like thing such as "GO
    Habs Go".

To keep up with Football ( soccer) analogies, it is 0-0 after one period Between Washington v Montreal, in football terms this would be a very
    defensive battle.

The other thing I dont like is how a Russian is now the greatest Ice
Hockey player of all time, Even if we all hate Gretzky since he became a Trumpanzee.

If I understood correctly, they are banning the fans in Montreal from
using the " Go Habs Go" chant. Not because it is dumb and unimaginative
but cus it uses the English word "Go".

I guess we will see if they abide by the Quebec govt wishes or if they

Out of curiosity, who qualifies as cold weather vs. hot weather. Or are
you just calling the most southerly team in each match up the warm
weather team. Eg Toronto warm weather compared to Ottawa (actually
true, Ottawa winters are quite a bit more severe. I have no idea if
Tampa is actually colder than the Miami area.

The original version was just latitude. A more sophisticated version
would be the place that has the smaller difference in average
    temperatures between January and June.

It would make a difference for an eventual matchup between Dallas and LA (Dallas lower latitude, but LA smaller temp difference), and between
Washington and Carolina (Carolina lower latitude, Washington smaller difference).

2 wins for WWT today so far.

A couple more days, and WWT is now 28-17, 5-1 in terms of series won.

No need for further experimentation we can safely conclude based open observations that WWT is at least 80% accurate in predicting series
    winners.

We are projecting the Oilers to win the Cup this year. Which means that
they will have to play Minnesota in the finals I guess?  If they cannit?

If the Oilers make it that far (does not seem super likely), they would
play someone like Toronto, FLorida, Washington or Carolina in the final.
Most likely one of Carolina or Florida, in my books. And not just
    because of WWT.

Edmonton is quite a lot further north. Winnipeg has colder winters
normally, and a bigger difference between mean July temperature and mean January temperature (I assume - did not look it up).

Yes, that's correct. Winnipeg would be favorite based on Simple WWT, but Edmonton based on Advanced WWT. Unfortunately, we won't get the chance
to test Simple vs Advanced WWT, because both will be eliminated before
    they can meet.

Now that I'm so invested in WWT, I watched the last period of
Dallas-Colorado yesterday. Dallas came back from a 2-goal deficit to win
it 4-2. The decisive equalizer came on a hopeless wraparound shot that
had no chance of going in but bounced off a poor cold-weather defender's
skate and into the net. WWT is inevitable.

I dunno about WWT but the heat must certainly have got to the

The Leafs have come back down to earth, which tells you how bad the
    Snores really were.

The Oilers made quick work of it and we stand by our predictions of them winning it all. The Jets may be eliminated tonight. I thought they were supposed to do better? Were they not the top team in the regular
season? But yeah Oilers vs the Minnesota North Stars in the West is the projection.

SO in the east, Florida is a given and they will probably meet the
Carolinas for the east conference final.

Is it weird that the ice hockey lasts longer into the summer than the
    football?

Well, unless you count the Club World Cup as football, which I think is happening here in the summer. I know a lot of people here think the
soccer lasts year round, with their always being World Cups and Euros
and Copas and what not every summer. Maybe it really never ends.

The Bundesliga Stanley Cup ended months ago, with the Berlin Polar Bears winning the Cup. Though i do think I saw that there is an Eishockey
World Cup going on again? I dont know, I just saw that Switzerland beat Germany something like 5-1.

No, they are a Lacrosse Nation. That and an Ice Fishing Nation. I
think they are current Ice Fishing World Cup holders.

Anyhow, my local team, which is about 3000km away, got an away win and
the series now returns home-that is 3000km away-with the advantage and
    surely the series win.

Florida won both home games and lead 2-0. I suppose if we went with
closest to home, Carolina would be my local team.

How does this compare to last year with the same
    final?

In the end, it’s northernmost against southernmost
    team twice in a row.

This is the first repeat final (in consective years) in quite a long
time. Since the days of the so-called original six, repeat finals have generally been pretty rare.

    Moving backwards through time:

2024 and 2025 Florida- Edmonton. 2025 outcome not known yet. Florida
    in 7 games in 2024.
2008 and 2009. Detroit and Pittsburgh. One win apiece -- Wings in 2008
    (4-2), Penguins in 2009 (4-3).
1982 and 1983. NY Islanders and Edmonton. One win apiece: Isles 4-0 in
    1983, Oilers 4-1 in 1984.
1968 and 1969. Montreal and St. Louis. Montreal swept both 4-0.

Maybe not? The 100th overtime game in Stanley Cup final history, which
does not seem like a lot to me. The Cup is over a 100 years old and you
would think at least one OT game per year.

Interesting question, so I looked at the numbers.

Beginning in 1919, that’s the number of OT games
in Stanley Cup finals per decade:

    (1919: 2)
    1920‘s: 5
    1930‘s: 8
    1940‘s: 10
    1950‘s: 13
    1960‘s: 6
    1970‘s: 8
    1980‘s: 6
    1990‘s: 9
    2000‘s: 10
    2010‘s: 14
    2020-2025: 9

    Total: 100

Perhaps expansion is to blame? Parity (and so the
number of OT games) went noticeably down right
    after the Original Six era.

For the last three decades the average has been
above the 'expected' one OT game per Final Series.

How does this compare to last year with the same
    final?

2024: Warm Weather teams went 47-41, 9-6 in terms of series won, 1-0 in
    terms of Stanley Cups

    2025: currently 47-33 and 10-4.

    WWT FTW!

Final balance: 51-35, 11-4 in terms of series won, 1-0 in terms of
    Stanley Cup finals.

I (i.e., WWT) must have won our RSS NHL bracket thingie, right?

It looks as if our league was never activated, but I ended on 291
points, 6,249th out of 679,000+ entries. Not too shabby for a dumb
prediction using absolutely zero information about hockey.
