I was a bit surprised to see him come on, for those of you who dont
recall, this is the same Pedro that played for barca 15 years ago and
then Chelsea and then Roma and now he is Lazio.

Nothing really changed, except that now JJ is being chased by both Roman

So next weekend is the final day for the WWEpl, Serie A la liga.

No, the Leafs are gonna blow it, down 3-0 in the 2nd period.

    Leafs gonna leaf.

Yup, even out leafing themselves this game 6-1 FT and getting booed of
the ice pitch. The latest thing seems to be fans now throw their
replica shirts on the ice, those things cost like 200 bucks! Worse than
that, they throw their beer on the rink! Seems they were throwing lots
    of stuff in Toronto.

So only Edmonton left of the Righteous teams.
I think they go right into the semi finals tomorrow, meaning the Ice
hockey will probably be finished by July 1.

Meanwhile in the rest of Europa, many of the leagues, like Austria and
Belgium and Swiss and well a bunch of the 12 team leagues are doing that
final 6 thing they do at the end. No one really knows how it works.
The 6 bottom teams play for relegation and the top 6 for the title and
Europe. All of those ligas will end next week as well.

But the Dutchies ended their liga today, like the rest of the proper
ligas. No one should be playing after the May two four weekend!

Anyhow, PSV win the title, Ajax in second makes the UCL, I think they
have a play off to for the 3rd place teams to make the UCL? If so it is Feyenoord.

As mentioned earlier, Sporting finish 1st in Portugal with Benfica 2nd
    and Porto 3rd.

France ended as well this weekend and we all know PSG won the title a
few months ago and that Jonathan Davids team is out of the UCL (he
better get a new team) but the real news is that Marseilles is back.
They finished 2nd and Monaco 3rd, just like Old times. Nice was 4th and
I think they play in some pre-qualifying thing. Or maybe they just go
    to EUROPA?

FC Paris gained promotion the the 1st div next season, which I think
    means two Paris teams.

I think everyone else is still going, either with a full league or the 6
    team mini leagues

    Ciao,

Yes, Verona could still find itself in a multi way tie which includes
18th place, so they could still be involved in a playoff.

Serie A rules still call for playoff match to decide championships and
the final relegated team, or do they?

    Yes, they do.

If so, what happens with a four
way tie for 15th place ?

They first rank the teams based on:

    a) points in H2H matchups between all teams involved in a multi-way tie.
    b) goals in H2H matchups
    c) overall goal difference
    d) overall number of goals scored
    e) drawing of lots.

And then they have a playoff between teams ranked 17 and 18. Home and
away, no away goals rule, straight to penalties if tied after 90
    minutes.

For the scudetto race, there can only be a two-way tie, so if Inter and
Napoli end up even on points (now possible only if Napoli lose at home
to Cagliari and Inter draws vs Como), there will be a playoff (either in
San Siro, because Inter has better overall GD, or in the Olimpico).

Based on the above, one would have to look at the H2H record in the
3-way tie between {Empoli, Lecce and Verona} or the 4-way tie between
{Empoli, Lecce, Parma and Verona} to see if Verona is still at risk.

Brad Marchand clearly had pity in the post-match
interview, that has to be the worst.

So only Edmonton left of the Righteous teams.
I think they go right into the semi finals tomorrow, meaning the Ice
hockey will probably be finished by July 1.

Meanwhile in the rest of Europa, many of the leagues, like Austria and Belgium and Swiss and well a bunch of the 12 team leagues are doing that final 6 thing they do at the end. No one really knows how it works.
The 6 bottom teams play for relegation and the top 6 for the title and Europe. All of those ligas will end next week as well.

In Austria, there will be a three-team finish on the
last matchday, and none of those three is RB
Salzburg. You could have probably earned a pretty
penny betting on such an outcome before the
season. Still, Sturm Graz only need a draw at home
against plucky Cup winners WAC to retain the title.

FC København in pole position in Denmark (only
need a win at home against Nordsjælland), while in
Belgium Union Saint-Gilloise could finally take
advantage of the Jupiler League play-off system
(after getting shafted by it in each of the previous
three seasons), they just need a home win against
nothing-to-play-for Antwerp for their first league
    title since 1935.

Speaking of which it’s been a season of firsts -
first trophy for Newcastle in 70 years, first trophy
for Bologna in 51 years, first trophy for Go Ahead
Eagles in 93 years, first trophies ever for Crystal
    Palace and Harry Kane.

(It’s also been the first ever trophy for Wolfsberg in
Austria, and could still become the first ever for
Arminia Bielefeld in Germany, and the first in 78 years
    for FC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland)

But the Dutchies ended their liga today, like the rest of the proper
ligas. No one should be playing after the May two four weekend!

Anyhow, PSV win the title, Ajax in second makes the UCL,

Epic meltdown by Ajax who had been nine points
clear four matchdays from the end (thereby also
invalidating your matchdays left/points ahead rule).

They suffered two heavy defeats against Utrecht and
NEC before conceding a decisive 99th-minute
    equaliser against Groningen last Wednesday.

I think they have a play off to for the 3rd place teams to make the UCL? If so it is
    Feyenoord.

3rd CL qualification round, to be precise.

As mentioned earlier, Sporting finish 1st in Portugal with Benfica 2nd and Porto 3rd.

And, for the second time after 2021/22, European
football on the Azores, as CD Santa Clara finish in
    fifth.

Or maybe they just go
    to EUROPA?

Like Feyenoord, Ineos-backed Nice will go to the 3rd
    CL qualification round.

Drama at the bottom, too, as Le Havre saved
themselves with a 99th-minute Panenka penalty.

Saint-Étienne go down again, as will Montpellier
thirteen years after their surprise title.

FC Paris gained promotion the the 1st div next season, which I think
    means two Paris teams.

Perhaps soon to be RB Paris, as they hold a share.

Red Bull have also successfully pushed for a move
from the lacklustre Stade Charléty (I‘ve attended a Ligue 2 match there once, it was indeed pretty
boring) to the rugby stadium Jean-Bouin, which will
add an intriguing entry to the 'closest distance
    between two rival clubs‘ question.

I think everyone else is still going, either with a full league or the 6
    team mini leagues

Very close finish in Croatia where Gattuso‘s Hajduk
Split have all but thrown away the title with three
defeats in their last five, but might have also spoiled
it for Rijeka by beating them yesterday, leaving the
door open for eternal champions Dinamo Zagreb.
Still, Rijeka will win it by beating Slaven Belupo at
    home on the last matchday.

Photo finishes in Hungary (Ferencváros need a point
to prevail over the Puskás Academy), Poland (Lech
Poznań need a win to keep Raków Częstochowa at
bay) and Moldova (where due to their crazy playoff
system that just resets points to zero, Sheriff have
lost the title on the last matchday for the second year
    in a row).

    Ciao,
    Werner

WE are now getting reports that this is not even the final game of the
    season in Serie A.

Inter score at the end of the half and have a 1-0 lead and are top of
    the table.

Pretty exciting finish. Napoli couldn't get past Parma (they had a 97th

Como - Inter    (Como with nothing to play for, but they've been on a

    CL race:

    Atalanta 74
    Juve 67
    --------
    Roma 66
    Lazio 65

Juve needs a win away to Venezia (who can still escape Serie B) to
    clinch the last CL spot.

At the bottom of the table:

    Verona 34
    Parma  33
    Lecce  31
    ------------
    Empoli  31
    Venezia 29

Verona maybe safe already, all the others need points.

In other news, Sampdoria was relegated to Serie C? How did that happen?

The culmination of years of mismanagement (former
owner Massimo Ferrero has 17 Wikipedia paragraphs
dedicated to his criminal proceedings), but in typical
Italian fashion they might still be saved by the
mismanagement of others - Brescia face a point
deduction and could get relegated instead, which
would send Sampdoria into the relegation playoffs.

    Ciao,
    Werner

    Best regards,

Well in the Netherlands, my 6th favourite team did kind of blow it, and
only finished runners-up; I've got the consolation of having got my
    pre-season prediction right.

In France, I also got my pre-season prediction right; my 3rd favourite
team ended in mid-table mediocrity though.

In Portugal, my 16th favourite team had to make do with finishing
runners-up, but again I correctly predicted the Champions. My 9th
    favourite team got relegated! :-(

In Spain I correctly predicted that my 17th favourite team would be
Champions. My 8th favourite team ended in mid-table mediocrity.

In Germany, I correctly predicted the Champions. My 4th favourite team
failed to win promotion. And Hamburg did go and win promotion the year I
didn't tip them to win promotion.

In Italy, my tip to win the Championship look as if they're going to
have to make do with finishing runners-up, but they're my 5th favourite
team's local rivals so I'm not too disappointed about that. There's a
chance that my 13th favourite team could get relegated. :-(

And in Argentina, there's a half-decent chance that my favourite team
and my 14th favourite team could end up as the top 2 in the Apertura Championship.

There, how's that for a round up of what's going on in the football
world from a Mark perspective? :-)

Wow, that's almost enough information to reconstruct the full list of
Mark's favorite teams! I wonder, is the list fixed and immutable, or do
some teams go up and down in the rankings? And what happens if there's
strong disagreement between your current and past selves?

No upset in Liechtenstein though - FC Balzers
(playing in the Swiss 5th tier) could have won their
first cup title since 1997 since until the 65th minute
they led 2-0 in the final against Vaduz (three tiers
above), but in the end they lost 2-3, with the third
goal coming from a hands penalty. Vaduz win their
25th cup title in the last 26 years (sole exception:
    Eschen/Mauren in 2012).

WE are now getting reports that this is not even the final game of the >>>> season in Serie A.

Inter score at the end of the half and have a 1-0 lead and are top of
    the table.

Pretty exciting finish. Napoli couldn't get past Parma (they had a 97th
minute penalty call denied by those dastardly Norther VARobots), but
Inter couldn't take advantage, despite taking the lead twice at home
versus Lazio. But a 90th minute penalty converted by old man Pedro
    sealed the final 2-2.

So, Napoli still with a 1-point advantage. On the final match day:

Napoli - Lecce   (Lecce need points to stay up)
Como - Inter    (Como with nothing to play for, but they've been on a >>> hot streak  in 2025).

    CL race:

    Atalanta 74
    Juve 67
    --------
    Roma 66
    Lazio 65

Juve needs a win away to Venezia (who can still escape Serie B) to
    clinch the last CL spot.

At the bottom of the table:

    Verona 34
    Parma  33
    Lecce  31
    ------------
    Empoli  31
    Venezia 29

Verona maybe safe already, all the others need points.

In other news, Sampdoria was relegated to Serie C? How did that happen?

The culmination of years of mismanagement (former
owner Massimo Ferrero has 17 Wikipedia paragraphs
dedicated to his criminal proceedings), but in typical
Italian fashion they might still be saved by the
mismanagement of others - Brescia face a point
deduction and could get relegated instead,

Or dissolved, which would be a real shame.
Massimo Cellino has a certain track record though.

    Ciao,
    Werner

which would send Sampdoria into the relegation
    playoffs.

Too bad he's not in charge of a Serie A team, would have been easy
    points in RSSCSC.

First we have to miss out on the WC for a third time in a row.
