UEFA, famously known for taking a hard-nosed stance on
Multi-Club Ownership, have now tackled the problem head on,
and so mighty Drogheda United Football Club have been
disqualified from Europe for having the same owners (Trivela
Group) as Silkeborg IF from Denmark.

To add insult to injury, when Drogheda qualified for Europe by winning
the FAI Cup in November 2024, Silkeborg hadn't yet even been part of the
Trivela portfolio, they were acquired a month later. But according to
UEFA rules the Danes take precedence because of their higher league
finish, and Drogheda aren't even replaced in Europe by another Irish
team since none of them have applied for a European licence. Instead,
two teams from ConfLQ1 (Albania's Dinamo City and Ireland's own Shamrock
Rovers) will move up directly to ConfLQ2.
There is also another UEFA investigation going on regarding Dunajská
Streda and Győr who are both owned by Slovakian-Hungarian businessman
Oszkár Világi, and we also haven't yet heard anything definite regarding >> the most high-profile case, i.e. John Textor's Crystal Palace and
Olympique Lyon.
Textor has just sold his share in Palace (to the worst owner in the NFL,
but that's not the issue right now), so that should satisfy UEFA requirements.
Official UEFA statement: Dunajská Streda are out,
same as Drogheda. A decision on Crystal Palace has
been postponed but as I read it only Lyon’s enforced
relegation will actually save their spot in Europe.

At least Botafogo seem to be doing Ok?
Ciao,

It's good to see UEFA tackle this issue head on and take on the
big boys of Europe over this... Dunajská Streda and Drogheda
are just the sort of teams that need to be taught a lesson.
That'll show 'em... who do these owners think they are
splashing their cash around owning multiple teams. So well
done UEFA for taking a stand against that sort of thing...

Lyon won the appeal to stay in Ligue 1 and in all
likelihood keep their place in Europe.
That’s bad news for Crystal Palace. Textor only sold
his shares in the club way past the official UEFA
deadline (a detail I had originally missed).
If I had to bet on it I would now actually put my
money on Palace being disqualified from the Europa
League, and I’m pretty sure that would ruffle a bit
more feathers than Drogheda United did.

Can't UEFA use its discretion and put one of Lyon or
Crystal Palace in the conference league instead ?

Yes, and they have done.
Crystal Palace FC have now been demoted to the UEFA
Conference League. (Announced by UEFA today.)
Crystal Palace are now appealing to CAS.
Interesting. So they would be swapping spots with
Nottingham Forest?
What I'm now curious about - with Crystal Palace in the Conference
League there might a new conflict with Brøndby. David Blitzer holds
the majority there, and he holds a stake in Palace as well.
FC Bruno's Magpies (GIB) v Paide Linnameeskond (EST)* 2-3 (1-2)
(Britto 38', Del Rio 54'; Saarma 8', 90'+8 (pen), Miller 43')
The Magpies have merged with Calpe City and from next year will be known
as Calpe City Magpies FC,
SJK (FIN) v KÍ (FAR)* 1-2 (0-1)
(Arsalo 47'; J. Andreasen 39', Tellechea 86')
another, but four minutes from time KÍ's Argentine centre-back Gastón Tellechea - I'm not exactly sure how Klaksvík enticed him to move from
the Argentine 2nd tier to some windswept islands in the Atlantic - dove

I can come up with a very simple solution to that. A solution
that all right thinking people will consider fair and just.

I hope it's because Lamb is a culinary delicacy in Argentina

I've had it. It's not bad honestly, tastes almost like cheese.
