To add insult to injury, when Drogheda qualified for Europe by winning
the FAI Cup in November 2024, Silkeborg hadn't yet even been part of the

Textor has just sold his share in Palace (to the worst owner in the NFL,

Plot twist: Olympique Lyon just got forcibly relegated

Lyon won the appeal to stay in Ligue 1 and in all
likelihood keep their place in Europe.

That’s bad news for Crystal Palace. Textor only sold
his shares in the club way past the official UEFA
deadline (a detail I had originally missed).

If I had to bet on it I would now actually put my
money on Palace being disqualified from the Europa
League, and I’m pretty sure that would ruffle a bit
more feathers than Drogheda United did.

Can't UEFA use its discretion and put one of Lyon or Crystal Palace in
    the conference league instead ?

Out of curiosity what loophole allowed RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg to
play in the Champions' league last year ? Are they not both owned by
Red Bull GMBH ? What am I missing ?

It will upset the usual talking heads in the English media, and
it will be a big disappointment for Crystal Palace fans... if it
does happen. But, Crystal Palace as an organisation took
investment from a businessman who had ownership shares in
another club so they should have been aware of UEFA's multi-club
ownership rules and what it would mean should both clubs qualify
    for the same European tournament.

I think it's harsh as it's always the innocent fans that suffer
from things like this, not the rich businessmen who have other
interests and investments. So I feel sorry for the Crystal
Palace fans who go week-in week-out and will probably not be
allowed to see their team compete in the Europa League next
    season now.

Of course, in reality Crystal Palace didn't expect to qualify
for a European competition in the first place. So they didn't
consider the rule to be important.

    Yes, and they have done.

Crystal Palace FC have now been demoted to the UEFA

Crystal Palace are now appealing to CAS.

Interesting. So they would be swapping spots with
    Nottingham Forest?

That hasn't been announced as yet, but it is the likeliest
scenario. Although with Crystal palace appealing to CAS I
wouldn't expect any decision from UEFA to be announced
    before then.

UEFA has got itself into a right pickle over this... with
its softly softly approach to some clubs with the same
ownership, and then the letter of the law approach to others.
Meaning teams like Drogheda and Crystal Palace are the ones to
suffer... teams that don't have a lot of international clout.

It'll be interesting to see if CAS overturn the 'demotion'...
methinks that will really piss UEFA off!
