• EV tire wear

From Tommy@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jun 3 20:48:28 2023
A rarely discussed topic with EVs is their tire wear. Most people are unaware of how heavy EVs are, and the longer their range, the heavier they are. How heavy, do you ask? Well, the Tesla Model X weighs as much as my F-250 Super Duty diesel pickup! Yes,
they are as heavy as a LARGE pickup! And, look at their tires - they don't look anything like the tires on my pickup. As a result, they wear faster than your average ICE car. In fact, they may wear out in as little as 20k miles. And the cost of replacing
these tires IS NOT CHEAP! A new set of top line tires can cost $1,400: https://www.torquenews.com/14335/tires-my-tesla-model-3-rwd-how-much-do-they-cost

And your F-250 is precisely what year and configuration, Sunshine?

I'll bet you're not comparing like to like.

And what do the tires for your F-250 cost?

And his estimate is just that: an ESTIMATE.

    And he gives it 20K-25K.

And admits that his tread wear might be abnormally high because he's
been "accelerating a lot because my car was new,"

Plus tire life is a function of the compound design too…softer wears faster.

For Porsche 911 drivers using the OEM approved “N” specification tires,
to get 20K miles out of a set is doing well…and 30K is unheard of..

LOL! Give it to the Fool - he doesn't understand IRONY when he is HIT IN THE FACE with it!!

Here is the takeaway: EVs are HEAVY CARS, much heavier than your typical ICE car. And this will get WORSE as people demand more range before they will buy them. OK, libtards, let me give you a simple physics fact: energy density of batteries is MUCH
WORSE than gasoline! How much worse, you ask? Well, it is ONE HUNDRED times worse!!

But, even the DUMBEST libtard knows this.

Here is the takeaway: EVs are HEAVY CARS, much heavier than your typical ICE car.

The older aircooled Porsche 911 had a ~2800 lb curb weight, and late model ones start
at ~3200 lbs, which means that they're lighter than many ICE's today (especially ICE SUVs),
yet their tire life is in the 20K mile range (fronts ... rears are less), plus even just a set of small
15" rims on still cost $1400 retail today (as per Tire Rack ... look it up).

TL;DR: there's more to the "tire cost" factor than merely curb weight.

    Here is the takeaway:

That you won't answer my question?

How much do tires for your F-250 cost?

What year is your F-250? What does it weigh?

EVs are HEAVY CARS, much heavier than your
    typical ICE car.

    They are, that's true.

But there is more to the cost of ownership than tires, isn't there?

Check out the required maintenance for your truck vs. a Tesla.

And this will get WORSE as people demand more range
    before they will buy them.

People are already buying them, and batteries are getting better.

OK, libtards, let me give you a simple
physics fact: energy density of batteries is MUCH WORSE than
gasoline! How much worse, you ask? Well, it is ONE HUNDRED times
    worse!!

    So what?

But, even the DUMBEST libtard knows this.

But only the dumbest maga-idiots make a big deal about it.
