The big news of the day is the announced merger of the PGA Tour, the
DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), and LIV Golf after over a
year of acrimony. Many PGA and DP World stars opted to sign up with
LIV Golf for 8 and 9 figure contracts. Many of them were on the
downsides of their careers but there was several still at their peak.
Most of the top names passed on the big paydays out of loyalty to the
PGA Tour. I wonder how the loyalists are feeling now that they passed
up their chance for the big payday only to see the PGA cut a deal with
LIV Golf.
PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan sent an email to all the PGA Tour members
this morning announcing the deal. I wonder if he used the line from
Animal House. "Face it. You fucked up. You trusted us.".
They get a participation trophy.
