Youtube recommended this video to me as well.
Ironically, 3k years ago is almost exactly when history began, writing began. It first pops up mere centuries earlier, as far as we know, and would have taken some time to spread.
In a word: Civilization!
If you believe in evolution then you believe changes as those described here are the result of selective pressures. And with the advent of civilization, size
was no longer a selective advantage. Wealth was.
In the middle east, a man could have as many wives as he could afford. So
the richer you were, they more you bred.
One might also argue that wealth correlates to intelligence...
But, the point is that the selective pressures were not on body size nor physical
attributes at all!
There were probably other forces at work here. The advent of agriculture meant a reduction of proteins. And the proteins that agricultural communities did have
were the wrong kind -- goats & cattle instead of seafood. Humans just aren't good at converting ALA into brain-building DHA, men even less capable than women.
Another indirect force was probably physical changes that made brains smarter, or "more efficient" as this video states it. I have long theorized (wildly speculated)
that some populations, such as Neanderthals, got smarter by growing bigger brains, while other populations (so called "moderns") got smarter by growing smarter brains. As separate & distinct populations interbred, the big brain genes
mixed with the smarter brain genes...
Just wild speculation, I know, but it does sound good.
But, definitely, such a change can only result from selective pressures. Everything
else just reinforced it, help it to become set in place, spread fast & wide.
