    We can remarkably well reconstruct how erectus looked like:
    brain c 800 cc, platycephaly (receding forehead, very low & long brain-skull), foramen magnum more posteriorly, prognathic mid-face + larger nose, larger thorax, platypelloidy + more flaring ilia, long & horizontal femoral necks + platymeria (dorso-
    ventrally flattened femoa), somewhat shorter tibias, very large SC fat layers etc.

    With dorsiflexed head, the male erectus (with baldness, beard & sebaceous glands as in H.sapiens still) was perfectly streamlined.
    It's not difficult if you know a bit on human anatomy.

    It's incredibly idiotic to believe that this fat, heavy-boned, broadly built archaic Homo (with fossils incl. islands such as Flores) could have endurance-run under the hot African sun.

    Not too too long ago there was a thread in another group were people were attacked for saying that dogs & wolves are members of the same species.

    And that's exactly what "Science" now claims.

    But it wasn't always that way, and many people grew up "learning" that dogs & wolves were separate species, just as they grew up "Learning" that Neanderthals were an evolutionary dead end, a separate species with zero interbreeding, the "Learning" running so deep that people still cling to the notions even after interbreeding has been accepted.

    UNLEARNING is perhaps the most difficult thing to do, at least for some.

    You listen to the professor, you absorb the readings and then you regurgitate it

    That's the education system: Learning NOT to think!

    People are idiots and pretend this isn't true, but grades are for the most part based
    on exams, and exam scores are a measure of your ability to regurgitate what was fed to you.

    AND THEN there's the propaganda aspect.

    Endurance running = savanna nonsense = Out of Africa purity

    Which means, to so much as flirt with Aquatic Ape is akin to demanding a reinstatement of slavery, joining the Nazi party & donning a white hood.

    Yes, for real, I have had multiple people state that it's racism...

    That's propaganda. Literally. Opposing savanna idiocy is associated with racism,
    so when people hear anything other than savanna nonsense they react as if
    they were hearing racist talk... exactly as trained.

    Marc, can you document that Elaine Morgan wished she hadn't used the term 'aquatic ape'? Aren't you simply projecting your own views onto Elaine Morgan here?
    She used the term 'aquatic ape' from 1982 until she died in 2013. That term is part of her legacy. Don't distort what she stood for, in order to support your own personal views.

    but about coastal adaptations (often inter-continental, e.g. Flores) & from the coast along rivers etc. inland.

    I used to refer to the ice age pump: The glacial/interglacial cycle.

    During the lengthy glacial cycles sea level would be quite low, lots of new land
    functioning as highways for those costal populations to spread. But then the interglacial period would arrive, increasing sea level 100 meters or more, swallowing up lands and isolating groups across the far reaches, pushing
    many inland... only for the next glacial period to start, reopening the highways,
    reconnecting everyone, spreading any new (and useful) genes to the others... only for the next interglacial isolating everybody again, pushing many

    These days I'm as likely to describe it as distributive computing, while the interglacial creates isolated nodes to take the problems of evolution only for the glacial period to reconnect them, sharing this new data before the next interglacial again isolated the nodes & started the whole damn problem all
    over again.

    It seems to be that humans underwent evolution in overdrive; sort of a Punctuated Equilibrium, where large numbers of smaller populations adapted
    to local (unique) conditions only to be reintroduced to the larger population, the coastal population being the lifeline between everyone, carrying genes
    from Australia to Africa and every point between.
